Show Thursday, April 5, 1979 Page 9 1 1 - School Board Sets Date For Bond Assumption Vote Continued From Page 1 The new area, which increases the size of the Park City School District by some 43 square miles, includes Prospector Square, Thaynes Canyon, Park Meadows, Holiday Ranch, Silver Creek, Hidden Cove, Highland Estates and the Parley's Summit Ski resort. Should the district pass the assumption assump-tion measure the eniire Park City School District will retire the new area's $192,390 debt by 1991. Additionally, Ad-ditionally, the district will increase its bonding capability by $465,582, since the district will have a larger revenue base. According to Park City School Superintendent Dr. Richard Good-worth, Good-worth, passage of the assumption measure will not raise the mill levy for the district. However, if the measure fails residents in the new area will have to pay an additional 1 to 3'2 mills per year until 1991 to pay the bond debt without aid from the rest of the district. That also would mean the district would not gain the nearly half million dollar increase in bonding capacity. On the same date and at the same polling places district voters will cast ballots on the separate issue of a $6 million bonding request by the Park City School Board. Superintendent Goodworth says the $6 million is needed to build the new elementary school and to finance future construction construc-tion projects, including a new middle school (to begin in 1981), and an auditorium or swimming pool for the high school The district currently is $200,000 short on the elementary school and if the bonding election doesn't pass six classrooms will have to be dropped from the building design, Goodworth said. The superintendent also noted that the old elementary school may face overcrowded conditions as early as next fall. Completion of the new elementary school is slated for the fall of 1980. Since there are five vacant classrooms at the middle school, the school board believes construction of a new middle school can be delayed until 1981. In the event the bond election passes and the assumption measure fails the district will proceed with the bond sale. But the sale would be cut by half a million dollars per year, increasing in-creasing the normal seven or eight year time span for sale of the bonds. Although the assumption election will complete the major part of the transfer of property from South Summit to Park City, there still remains money matters related to the transfer that must be solved. Chief among these is compensation to Park City School for revenue South Summit will collect from its lost district lands for the 1979 tax year. (Since the mill levy is set a year in advance, Park City will not be able to collect revenue on the new district property until 1980). Superintendent Goodworth says the two districts are working together and he does not forsee any difficulties in solving these final problems. The polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. for the May 1 elections.
