Show Wednesday, October 6, 1976 g8TBE88 Page 7 LETTER TO THE EDITOR Continued from page 2 Now there's no denying the adequacy of travel commun- . Rations presently available to the majority of those "out of town skiers" between the Salt Lake Airport-motels and Park City. But can we afford to sit up here, fat, dumb and happy, while the Salt Lake UTA system this year subsidizes a $1.50 round trip bus ride to Snow Bird (ten miles closer than Park City, Mr. Trepanier) and other Westside Wasatch ski resorts? Shouldn't we be taking advantage of this - golden opportunity to enhance en-hance the accessability to visitors of Park City and surrounding Summit County More visitors bring more tax dollars, and more tax dollars fix more roads. And while we're talking of roads, and the automobiles that overload over-load our winter streets and parking facilities, consider this Mr. Trepanier. Most families who fly into Park City will use our bus system, our local taxi service, and the courtesy cars that progressive progress-ive lodging operators are sure to offer from the airport. Those who do choose to rent a car will do so from our own future car rental agencies, another source of tax dollars for the benefit of our local governments. And it is these tax benefits we referred to in our previous letter, not, as Mr. Trepainer chose to misunderstand us.claiming that all of us would actually fly from our airport. Plenty of us will. It would not be difficult to identify city and county residents with business committments in the Intermountain Region and elsewhere who would use our airport to the economic ariwrtage of their btwinwa 'w-DugwayBttempted-a' 4 BtsatM our courttyr " 'bKaBy'lImlW In conclusion, we re sorry about Rich County not having an airport either, they , just have the use of one. It seems that Woodruff residents resi-dents drive . 16 miles to Evanston Airport located two miles across the boarder Wyoming. And that's .Costly MIstokQS By Jeff Hunt PCHS Last Friday's showdown with the Dugway Mustangs will not be a game easily-forgotten easily-forgotten by the Park High Miners. The Miners had lost four straight and were counting on a homecoming victory against Dugway to get things moving. Instead they were upset by the Mustangs 8 -0. Park City's defense proved outstanding throughout the game, stopping Dugway from scoring eight times within their own 30-yard line. Though the score was 8 -0 against Park City, the Miner defense did not give up one point. The eight points were scored on a safety and , a fumble. Dugway took the initiative in the first quarter converting convert-ing two fourth-down-and-3 situations for first downs. This contributed to their '. 65yard drive which landed them on the Miner's 30-yard line. On the 30 they stayed, however, as the Miner defense toughened up and held. In the second quarter, the Miners had poor field position posi-tion and were' being pushed back even firther. Finally, Dugway caught Park City in their own end zone for a safety. - Late in the second quarter Dugway had penetrated to the Park City 17-yard line, where once again the Miner, pride came through with a sack on quarterback Tony Magann. Magann was hit hard and had to be helped off the field. The sack resulted in a two-yard loss and from here field" was run back inside the Dugway 20-yard line. The block and the run were called back, however, because in the process of blocking the kick, Farley himself had kicked the , ball, which is illegal. Dugway did not get anything out of it though, as the Miners held, again at the 15and the half ended with the score 2-0. v 1 The third quarter was highlighted by a fine run from Rick Provost which unfortunately ended in a fumble. The fumble was beneficial though, as end Chuck Berriochoa snatched the ball up and headed down field with it. Berriochoa was barely dragged down by a seat-of-the-pants tackle at Dugway 's 40-yard line. The Miners failed to mount an offensive drive and were forced to punt. On the first play in the fourth quarter Park City fumbled and Dugway recovered re-covered the ball in the Miner end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was blocked and the scoring ended for the day with Dugway up by eight. Time ran out with the Miner defense still holding fast at their own 14. Amongst the dissapoint-ment dissapoint-ment at the end of the game, there was also worry Mike Reed's neck had been injured on the last play of the game. The . ambulance came and took him to the University Hospital. There they took X-rays of Reed's neck and had a neurologist standing by. It seemed Mike had suffered a pinched nerve and after treatment was released. Nevertheless, Mike will be ready for Wednesday's battle against North Summit, at home. Let's make it clear to everyone, including that hard core of self reliant state's righters here in Utah, that our Summit-Park City Airport project is no government handout. Ninetyone percent has already al-ready been collected from the users and all of its maintenance mainten-ance would be paid for by the users. For our county and city there is the liklihood of a substantial return on a -pretty small investment. Daniel Willard Due to an error in last week's issue, a portion of Bob Trepanier' s letter to the editor concerning the proposed propos-ed Summit County-Park City airport was deleted. The incorrect sentence should have read: . "According to the county 'auditor's Financial Statement State-ment published in the Summit Sum-mit County Bee of May 6, 1976, the county appropriated appropriat-ed a total of 1,245,550.00 for the airport in 1975" The Newspaper regrets this mistake and offers its apologies to Mr. Trepanier. -vr fr&VW WW HMCTRMi 3T0RI S Park High chaariaadara In Main St. parade.
