Show PegoS Wednesday Septim&rl 5,'1 976 Ford Ahead In Local Political Poll Continued from page 1 Swine Flu And You r President Ford's figures did not particularly surprise us, what with experience being a basis of each of the three questions, and the smattering smatter-ing of anarchy should shock no one. , Responses to the sixth question of our Political Poll revealed a wish for what will not happen, thanks to the League of Women Voters. It read:"Should 'third party' candidates be included in the televised debates?" Replying Yes were 8 6 percent, although several people wrote that they should be candidates of only . major third parties, or that it must be provided that the : candidate has "sizeable support sup-port in an appropriate number of states." We asked next whether the people thought the debates might sway their opinion, to which 55 percent answered yes, 35 percent no and 10 percent maybe. Interesting how many felt their decision to be already made. Finally came the standard, "If the election were held today,, who would you vote . for?" ' The results further strengthened our interpretation interpreta-tion of the question 3, 4 and 5 percentages, and were as follows: Carter 35 percent; Ford 40 percent; McCarthy 10 percent; Undecided 15 percent. Breaking it down into Party affiliation, we found that Carter has more support among his own Party (69 percent) than President Ford among his (64 percent); but also that Ford today would steal more Democrats (19 percent) than Carter could Republicans (14 percent). The largest block of Undecided Undecid-ed voters fell in the Republican Repub-lican Party (22 percent). Of Democrats, only 12 percent reveal they don't know at . this point for whom they would cast a vote. During the televised debate s the candidates will presumably presum-ably be speaking to the Independent voter in Park City. Our poll indicates that today the Independents would vote: Carter --24 percent; Ford 43 percent; and McCarthy 19 percent; with 14 percent undecided. We thank those people who did stop, and we hope you will stop again after the first debate when we attempt to tabulate whether it did, indeed, sway some of your decisions. n You probably have heard a good deal about swing flu swine flu vaccine. You may not know, for example, that swine flu caused a outbreak of several hundred cases at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, early in 1976 and that before then wine flu had not caused outbreaks among people since the 1920's. With the vast majority of Americans being susceptible to swine flu, it is possible that there could be an epidemic this winter. No one can say for sure. However, if an epidemic were to break out, millions of people could get sick. Therefore, a special swine flu vaccine has been prepared and tested which should protect most people who receive it. Certain people, such as those .with chronic medical problems and the elderly, need annual protection against flu. Therefore, besides be-sides protection against swine flu, they also need protection against another type of flu, Victoria flu, that was around last winter and could occur again this winter. A separate vaccine has been prepared to give them protection against both types of flu. These vaccines have been field tested and shown to produce very few side effects. Some people who receive the vaccine had fever and soreness sore-ness during the first day or two after vaccination. These tests and past experience with other flu vaccines indicate that anything more severe than this would be highly unlikely. Many people ask questions about flu vaccination during pregnancy. An advisory committee com-mittee of the Public Health Service examined this question ques-tion and reported that ther's are no data specifically to contraindicate vaccination with the available killed virus vaccine in preganancy. Women who are pregnant should be considered as having the same balance of benefits and risks regarding influenza vaccination and influenza as the general population." As indicated, some individuals individ-uals will develop fever and soreness after vaccination. If you have more severe symptoms sym-ptoms or if you have fever which lasts longer than a couple of days after vaccination, vaccina-tion, please consult your doctor or a health worker wherever you receive medical care. While there is no reason to expect more serious reactions ' to this flu vaccination, persons who believe that they have been injured by this vaccination may have a claim. The Congress recently passed a law providing that such claims, with certain exceptions, may be filed only against the United States Government. Information regarding re-garding the filing of claims may be obtained by writing to the U.S. Public Health Service Claims Office, Park-lawn Park-lawn Building, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, Maryland 20352: i "HAL TAYLOR ASSOCIATES P.O.
