Late Monday afternoon Commissioner Al Hazelrigg of the host Park City League suspended play and canceled all remaining games in the three-day tournament due to thunder showers and a forecast of more of the same. Fortunately, at the time play was called, there were only two teams remaining in the double-elimination competition. These were the Hatch Cover of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Erda from the town of the same name seven miles north of Tooele. Earlier in the day, the steady Colorado team won a thriller from the Park City Ski Club in a battle of undefeateds. The Ski Club then lost to Erda whom they had defeated soundly the previous afternoon in a contest which decided the winner of the losers bracket; the last inning of this game being played in the rain. There was to be no more softball, as the continuing deluge destroyed any hope of resuming play and all but took the decision out of Commissioner Hazelrigg's hands. The official reuslts showed the Hatch Cover as winners with a 3-0 mark, followed by Erda at 4-1 and the' Ski Club at 2-2. The Ski Club losses were both incurred Monday after half of the original eight teams had been eliminated. It was a sweet victory for the crew from Colorado, a victory sealed, as is usually the case, by timely hitting and steady defense. Their social spirit was demonstrated later Monday evening as they entered the awards banquet at the Utah Coal and Lumber Bar through the rear door with beers raised on high and singing "Hurrah for Utah", the Hatch Cover team arrived to applause as well as to individual and team championship trophies. Second place Erda and third place Ski Team received team trophies. Last year's league and tourney champs, and this year's league champs, Spencer's Auto came in fourth place, followed by Salt Lake's Budweiser Photo: Craig Rteca Twelve National Football League teams are hidden in this block of letters.
