In first place with a 7-0 record, the Softballers have established themselves as the solid favorites in the upcoming playoffs. While the anticipation for a championship year is running at fevered pitch veteran players are not making any predictions. Softballers who have been with the team throughout their five year history only need recollect those second and third place finishes in years past to temper any overconfident thinking. . Make no mistake about it, however, the '76 Softballers have the stuff of champions. Coach Julie Christians has taken a seasoned core of veterans and blended them with some fine young tallent to field a team deft at every position. Strengthened by an experienced bench, and supported by an enthusiastic group of fans the Softballers have proven they are going to be tough to beat. Explaining the reason for the team's success, Coach Christians, the Softballers' pilot since its expansion days , said,"In the past we've always been good fielders but this year our hitting' and pitching has made the big difference. Attesting to laurels for the team's strong pitching. A newcomer to the Softballers, but a familiar smiling face to many around town, Sharon has been laying in those strikes with an uncanny un-canny accuracy. : i Backing up the rookie pitching ace could be the tightest infield this side of Cincinnati. At second base veteran Jody Pugh has been keeping base thievery f at a minimum with her well placed tags. Pam Rapplean has been turning is some solid performances at shortstop to go along with her torrid hitting. And Judy de los Cobos, who recently returned from her brief sojourn to Southern California with the new surname of Thompson, continues to keep everything cool at the hot corner. Rounding out the infield at first base is Softballer stalwart Leigh .Terry. An adept fielder, Leigh's specialty is turning 1 those errant throws into sure outs. If you have never seen the Softballers outfield in action, they alone are worth the trip to Heber. Watching those lovely little ladies prancing after long fly balls is guaranteed to send a surge of joy to the heart of every true sportsman. t Julie's observation is a nifty team batting average of 478. While the entire team has joined in the fun of smacking out those base hits it is Sharon Auger who takes the D 0 J i 1 t . , i. ' rumored that Gail's perchant for hitting the long ball is necessitated by her inclination in-clination to take her time rounding the bags. Utilizing her dazzling speed, Bev Ross continues to make the big plays as the teams short fielder. Catcher Vickie Ross, Bev's sister and winner of last year's most valuable player award, recently broke her wrist in an equestrian accident. ac-cident. The veteran Soft bailer said she expects to be back in time fotihe playoffs. Denise is one big reason for the Softballer's success. In center . Margret Lehto combines a strong arm with some attractive fielding to turn in some fascinating play. Some power hitting and aggressive fielding has made right fielder Gail Dahl a strong contender for "rookie of the year". Although certainly not to her discredit, it has been Lloyds-Chickens 23-2. Backing up the regulars is a talented group of reserves that include Pam Shepard, Jeannine Wait, Stella Redondo, Susie Blair, Annette and Park City's premier statistician Reva Hazelrigg. Since it should be obvious the Softballers are a team worthy of the town's support, check the schedule below and head on over to Heber some night.
