Surprise The puzzling chain of events which led to Lund's resignation began on June 3 when the police chief surprised sur-prised both the city council and those attending the nouncing lihat infafa)' flVul1 and liquor crackdown had commenced. lie said this action was the result of a three-month-long secret investigation by undercover un-dercover agents and that a "mountain of evidence". had been compiled. Several arrests were to be made each week, Lund reported, until an eventual 27 warrants were served. . "The backbone of hard narcotics is going to take a severe loss," Lund said at that time. What Arrests? Although two warrants had been served for minor liquor violations no news was forthcoming for-thcoming concerning the promised drug arrests and local citizens voiced doubts as to the authenticity of the "bust". ' Then on June 8, Lund reported that three arrests connected with the Park City "investigation" had been made in Sandy, Utah. He said the three persona taken into custody had lived in Park City until May and had sold a quarter pound of heroin to the "undercover" agents in March. After calls to federal, state and local authorities failed to produce any confirmation of the arrests, Lund unraveled his story to the city council. He said he had seen the SffgOft! "agents", had met with them on a regular basis, had marked , and initaled evidence , suposedly gathered by them and was acting on their instructions in-structions when he made his two public announcements. During its investigation, city officials were told by Harry Sumega, regional director of me Drug Enforcement En-forcement Agency that he was unaware of any undercover un-dercover agents working in Park City this past winter and that any such operation would be known to his office. When asked if the city would continue to seek a - confirmation or refutation of Lund's story, Mayor Uriarte ' said, "As far as I am concerned con-cerned it is water under the bridge but if the city council decides to continue the ; investigation, in-vestigation, that's fine with me." Lund has been unavailable for comment since his resignation. Je PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED Pharmacist on Duty ' 12-4 p.m. Mon. - Sot. FREE DELIVERY WE ALSO HAVE GREETING CARDS FILM . One trail that would be studied is the Dominquez-Escalante Trail, part of which is in Utah. "The Subcommittee's favorable report on this legislation will mean a tremendous boost to Utah's Bicentennial celebration," Congressman Howe said. "It was in 1776 that Father Francisco Atansio Dominquez and Father Siverstre Velez de Escalante started their expedition which covered some two thousand miles across Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona." he noted. If the study does recommend the Dominquez-Kscalante Dominquez-Kscalante trail be included in the national system,, separate legislation is introduced at that time," Rep. Howe said. The Congressman also said there are celebrations planned for the 200th anniversary an-niversary of the expedition.
