Memorial Building, ' Bruce Decker had emerged as the Republican party's candidate for County Commissioner while Robert Burns Jr. was a'w'arded anv uncontested nomination from the Democratic party. Rounding out the field of Park City hopefuls running for the Summit County seat was Robert E. Tiepanier of the American party. Decker ' captured his party's nomination by securing the support of five of the seven elected district delegates for the county convention. The two delegates from, district 10, who did not promise to support Decker in Coalville June 8 appeared to be backing Bill Wallin. ' VValliit,.Hansen; Decker, ; Before the mass meeting split -up into groups according to districts, the three announced an-nounced Republican candidates can-didates ; for fimiHy Commissioner Com-missioner ,were asked to introduce themselves and to give a brief summary of why ihey were running for the office. The candidates, for the two-year two-year seat currently held by Mel Flinders who is not seeking re-election, included Park City " Recorder-Treasurer Recorder-Treasurer Bruce Decker, former councilman Clem Hansen and Snyderville resident Bill Wallin. 50utof7 , When votes for tlie Republican district delegates were tallied Decker supporters sup-porters had been elected in districts l,2,3,5,and 9. The delegates are as follows: district 1 Tom Ligare; district 2 Max Jarman; District &-Patty Miller; and district 9 Nancy McComb. Schools Evaluated "The Park City School System is potentially an outstanding f educational orginization.W, according to jiestudy team front the State Board of Education who recently evaluated the city's school district. In a preliminary report presented at a public meeting , Thursday evenjhg, May 13, in; the high school auditorium,! G. Morris Rowley, chairman of the evaluation team, said, "Park City Schools csmpare ; favorably with other schools of the snje'size in and QuVof ' the state of Utah." Although the prespectus of the study had orginally called for the report to be reviewed , first by school administrators the Park City Board of Education had requested that it be . presented to all interested in-terested parties at the same time. . . ',- The Mission of State School Board , '; " Prior, to his summation of 108 page evaluation report, Rowley t9ld tle ' public mtetiiig ; v : , "Tfte mission of the State Board of Education is the general parole and supervision super-vision of the schools in the state of Utah. The State School Board has the same interest and vital concern as the Park City School Board and as Dr. Goodworth for the quality of education offered in Park City's schools. We are not here to defend anybody nor are we here to discredit anyone but rather to report both , the strengths and weaknessea of the Park City schools.". Scope of the Study ' In the introduction of the evaluation teams written report the scope of the study was discribed as follows: "The study is directed toward an evaluation of the Park City School District . curriculum and related areas. It will be a complete K-12 K-12 evaluation of all cirriculum areas as well as many of the special services such as special education, guidance, media, and student activities.
