Show Page8 5 Thursday, February 15, 1979 Trivia Test YOU CAN DO IT Ms ' ' Kamas Lumber Upsets Wasatch A last second desperation shot by Kerry Lambert hit nothing but net to give Kamas Valley Lumber a surprising 71-69 victory over Wasatch Homes Tuesday night in the Recreation League tournament championship champ-ionship game. Wasatch Homes, the regular season champions, was undefeated going into the game and were favored to take the title after their exciting one-point victory over the strong Red Banjo Club. But Kamas Valley ignored the odds makers' and played even with Wasatch throughout the contest. Kamas' Darrel Thomas paced all scorers with 32 points, 20 of which came in the first half. Despite Thomas' efforts, Kamas trailed Wasatch 31-30 at half time. Wasatch was led by the Mutcher brothers, Kelly and Tim. Kelly, the season's most valuable player, had 23 points on the night while Tim added 14. Dan Broersma also contributed 14 points to the losing cause. The game remained close throughout the second half and it all came down to the final seconds. With four seconds left on the clock and the game tied at 69 all, Kelly Mutcher arced a baseline jumper that bounced straight up off the rim, touched the cross supports sup-ports above the backboard and dropped through the hoop. The basket was not allowed because the ball had hit the supports and Kamas called time out with only two seconds left. When play was resumed, Lambert, who-scored all of his 12 points in the second half, took the inbounds pass at half court and immediately im-mediately sent the ball sailing. The game-ending buzzer sounded while the ball was in the air and all eyes were glued to its flight. It tickled the twine for the winning basket, sending the Kamas players into the air with jumps of jubilation while the Wasatch squad could only shake their heads. In the consolation game, the Claimjumper, paced by Jim Anderson's 19 points and Steve Erickson's 18, downed Meeks Wirthlin 67-45. To experience the effects of camber design, think of your feet as being the same shape (your arch is actually shaped much like the bottom camber of a ski) and length as your skis. In making a left turn, after planting your pole, attempt to grab the snow with the inside arch of your right "big foot." Then try the reverse gripping with your left "big foot" in a right turn. Try to establish this contact or gripping sensation even before entering the fall line. Use these "big foot" turns to help increase the length of carve in your turns to aid control.
