Sleighs to dash through Park Meadows snow P A Q. K C 1 T V LEIGH by Susan Rento "Dashing through the snow, on a one-horse open sleigh, o'er the fields we go, laughing all the way. " The thrill of an old-fashioned sleigh ride, immortalized immor-talized in this familiar carol, will soon become Park City's newest amenity. Replete with jimgle bells and bobtails, bob-tails, horses will indeed dash through snow and o'er fields. What's more, they will carry their riders to a mid-trip stopping point, a sheep-herder's sheep-herder's tent, where roaring campfire, roving minstrel and hearty fare await. The Park City Sleigh Company will begin operation opera-tion in early December. Scott Bills, Mark Stedman and Georgene Crosby form a three-way partnership with a compatible blend of talent. Bills, a veteran in the sleigh ride business, has initiated programs in Steamboat Steam-boat Springs, at Sundance, East Canyon and, most recently, at The Jeremy Ranch. Stedman, with twelve years in the food and beverage business, is currently cur-rently running the Sneakers Club. His past experience Trouble dogs City Councilman City Councilman Tom Shellenberger is in the doghouse again. Readers of the Park City Newspaper may recall that Shellenberger received some publicity last December Decem-ber after his two dogs were impounded by Animal Control Con-trol Officer Barry Shoda. Shellenberger complained at a council meeting that one of the dogs was napping peacefully in the driveway at the time. Shoda responded that neither dog was licensed, and he was legally entitled to take them both away. The other members of the City Council seemed to agree. Well, Shellenberger and his dogs are back in the news. Shellenberger is scheduled to face trial in Fifth Circuit Court Dec. 15 for "dog running run-ning at large and chasing a person." Shoda told the Park City Newspaper that he was in Prospector Square Nov. 4 to answer a complaint that a number of dogs were running run-ning loose. He was in the vicinity vi-cinity of the Shellenberger home at 2362 Geronimo Court, he said, when a dog "left their premises to come after me ... One of the dogs was quite aggressive and snapped at me," Shoda continued. "It wasn't a matter of me being on the dog's property ... I felt as though the dog was chasine me." Shoda filed charges with Fifth Circuit Court Judge Larry Keller. According to the court clerk, Shellenberger Shellen-berger entered a not guilty plea on Nov. 10. A non-jury trial date was set for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 15. When reached by the Park City Newspaper, Shellenberger Shellen-berger declined comment on the incident. includes catering dinner sleigh rides at Sun Valley where it was common to turn out 250 meals per night. Crosby, the primary financial finan-cial backer, also acts as the group's marketing and promotions pro-motions coordinator. She plans to kick off the season with promotional rides for the Park City Chamber-Bureau, Chamber-Bureau, the Salt Lake Chamber, and local private clubs and lodges. One other special contributor contribu-tor is Enoch Smith, president of the Park Meadows Development Devel-opment Company, who recently re-cently granted the company permission to use the Jack Nicklaus Golf Course as the site for the dinner rides. Interested riders can purchase their non-refundable tickets 24 hours in advance at The Old Town Gallery, 1101 Park Avenue. For the $30 ticket price, passengers will be treated to a full hour of horse-drawn revelry plus another hour and a half of dinner, wine and music. According to Bills, passengers pas-sengers can expect the trip to be "an Old West type deal with a new twist." Purebred Clydesdales will sport festive, fes-tive, bell-trimmed harnesses. har-nesses. In each sleigh, a guitar player will serenade for the duration of the ride and dinner. And, during the holiday season, drivers will dress in full Santa regalia. The rest of the look comes easily, for Park City's snowy, alpine setting is a natural showcase for an old-fashioned, horse-drawn sleigh. After a leisurely trip around the golf course, the sleighs will head for the 40-man tent, where guests can sip on hot spiced wine and warm themselves by the fire. Meanwhile, preselected entrees of ribs, chicken and steak will be sizzling on woodburning stoves. A sample sam-ple menu might also include corn-on-the-cob, sheep-herder's sheep-herder's potatoes, soup, bread, hot apple pie and more wine. Dinners will be served at long, family-style tables. The people behind the Park City Sleigh Company view their service as part of a necessary and growing list of alternatives to skiing. "Park City needs programs pro-grams like our sleigh rides to make everyone's visit a real event," explains Crosby. "We want to provide the best service, the best food and the most fun so that people will return to Park City. It's a special way to remember our town." The group is confident that with their expertise, Park City's favorable setting and the novelty of their service, that it will prove to be a successful, long-standing program. "Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh! " PCP plans New Year's extravaganza Are you already planning how to say goodbye to 1982?
