Show Ski Swap is a big attraction Bob Marsh, head coach of the Park City Ski Team, compared it to the crowds at a premiere of "E.T.." At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, half an hour before the doors opened, there was a line draped around the corner at the Treasure Mountain Middle Mid-dle School. But the attraction wasn't an alien creature. It was the tlth annual Ski Swap, whose proceds go each year to benefit the local ski racing program. "It was a good swap," Marsh reported. "We netted about $7,500. Last year it was in the neighborhood of $4,200. Marsh listed a number of reasons for the popularity of this year's event. One was the amount of advance publicity it received in the Salt Lake Valley. Another was the school itself. "I think the most im Church dispute A dispute over water rights assessed on the new Park Meadows meeting house owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was settled Thursday at the City Council meeting. According to City Manager Arlene Loble, the church was charged $24,264 in water development fees last December De-cember using a square-footage formula designed for commercial buildings. Although the fees were paid, attorneys for the church attended last Thursday's Thurs-day's meeting to request a rehearing on the fee. "Their request for a rehearing re-hearing is a precursor to the filing of a lawsuit, because they feel that our water development fees are out of line with any assessments normally charged churches in Utah," Loble said in a memo to the council. Attorney F.B. McConkie, representing the church, argued that there was no reason for a fee since the new facility would consume no more water than the old FEATURED PROPERTIES OF THE WEEK: its ; - y tut Ann THE BRIGHT SIDE OF SHADOW RIDGE This is the best buy in Shadow Ridge. The sale is the largest local event of the year devoted to the buying and selling of used ski equipment. "We didn't have nearly as many clothes as we've had in the past," Marsh said. "But we had a large assortment of skis. We've never seen so many skis. And we had a remarkable number of boots " Marsh estimated that 1,300 people attended the two-day event, with the majority showing up Saturday morning. morn-ing. With this in mind, he said, the organization is considering making next year's Ski Swap a one-day event. "We don't feel that we're water settled church building on Wood-side, Wood-side, which is being closed in favor of the new structure. McConkie told the council that water consumption would be the equivalent of no more than two or three private dwellings. City Councilman Bob Wells suggested that the city could resolve the dispute by metering the building during its first year of occupancy, then charging a fee based on the amount of water used during the peak month. He suggested that the calculations calcula-tions be based on the standard set by the state for a single-family dwelling. Therefore, if the building used as much as three single-family homes, it would be charged the same development fee as three homes (3 x $2,500). "That sounds reasonable to me," McConkie said. After some discussion, Wells' proposal was put in the form of a motion and approved unanimously by the council. x -. I rr the cACHErrsiLVER bird -L- . A - , - I - -rv 7 . C. As approved, the ordinance ordinan-ce stipulates that all salesmen or solicitors must be licensed. It requires that all business except outdoor dining be conducted within a fully-enclosed building, unless conditional use approval ap-proval is given by the Park City Planning Commission. "We're looking at two new additions to the program this year; a full-color video and the leasing of a new van." He hopes to allocate some of the money to help cover travel expenses, particularly to those skiers who are competing on a national level. "We have a number of kids now who are getting national recognition who will be needing the money," he said. It also spells out guidelines for convention con-vention sales, public festivals and communitj events. The ordinance received the endorsement of the Park City Chamber of Coir.-'ier-ceConvention and Visitors' Bureau, but was opposed by timeshare companies who felt it discriminated against their salespeople.
