Nass warned that the Main Street businesses ;ind city officials must work together to encourage the full development develop-ment of Man Street and cited the trolley as a step in this direction. Don Millicam of the Car 19 was another strong backer of the trolley proposal. He compared the trolley with the special improvement district created to construct con-struct the Swede Alley parking. He said there was ,la lot of negative feelings' toward the project at the outset but observed, "I don't think anyone would disagree with the need for that parking today." Millicam predicted that once Main Street is built to capacity it will be short 500 to 1,000 parking spaces if an alternative transportation system is not supplied. Citing the lack of business in the non-ski months, he said, "Tlie trolley will attract people which will create commerce and jobs and a better way of life. I'm in favor Council Denies Water Charge Suspension Continued From Page 1 loan to improve water flow through the Judge Tunnel based on monthly water revenues. The suspension would alter the monthly revenues and place the city in a position of non-compliance with the loan contract, he said. In his letter Shorter stated : "Due to the poor winter season, many of us are in a very tight cash situation. It is felt by many that the water rate is excessive. ex-cessive. In addition, because of the lack of winter business, the water usage by Travel Council Resumes Promos were stopped, and now the remaining 17,000 have been mailed. L.A., S.F. Spots With the recent snow, a Utah ski commercial was resumed on a three-day-a-! week period OrP slx radio" stations in Los Angeles and six in San Francisco, heard' from six to eight times a day. An announcer, reporting live about snow conditions throughout the state, then shared the time with Western Airlines. Those spots have now run their course, but the announcements announ-cements are continuing in Seattle. Hughes Airwest cosponsors those. (Mr. Gallivan said that conditions, snow depths, etc., were compared with those of the Sierra, the Cascades and particularly with Colorado, to make Utah sound preferable.) The Utah Travel Council Reprinted From the Salt Lake Tribune The Utah Travel Council, motivated by recent snow storms, has resumed portions por-tions of its advertising campaign cam-paign across the country to iifiethifmarsr; having a ski season after all. The council director, Michael D. Gallivan, said there had been a hiatus of some forms of promotion due to low snow levels. For example, of a planned 16 weeks of radio announcements, announ-cements, which were cosponsored by airline carriers, the Utah ski message is being heard for a 10-week period. Beyond that, the council had a mailing list of 36,231 persons across the country who had inquired about skiing Utah. About half of the mailings went out with the first snow. Therefore, my suggestion is that in order for us to get caught up with our cash flow, the Council grant a two-month suspension suspen-sion of the water charge for April and May, in which months there is virtually no business. Then possibly some of us can bring our water bills current. "By granting this waiver, you would create a good feeling during this business draught by showing interest and concern for local businesses." has also resumed contacting ski editors from newspapers and magazines in key market cities, like Los Angeles, San Francisco, DAllas, Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, fevelagdanTorpnto. $435,000 Budget The council's winter advertising ad-vertising budget is $435,000, but Utah taxpayers only had to pay out $100,000. The' balance came from a match from a group of participating par-ticipating ski industry personnel per-sonnel and facilities and a match from the airlines. 'Mr. Gallivan said that while the radio spots, for example, are winding down, he is informed that the response is positive, and that if out-of -staters are going to travel, they now know Utah is available. He said the council is anticipating a ski season that will continue to May 15. 5:00p.m.-10:00p.m. WEEKENDS: Sat. 8:30a.m.-4:00p.m. 5:00p.m.-10:00p.m. Sun. 9:00a.m.-4:00p.m. 5:00p.m.-10:00p.m. SEA & SKI SPADEMAN a o v 3D o We have over 50 different items Saloman T-necks $8.00 Saloman Fanny Packs $8.00 Spademan Bindings D o X H 6 00 m x S m - m x 40 percent OFF Allsop Boot Trees $3.00 (limit 2 per customer) Sport Obermeyer Hats 30 percent OFF s GARDNER REALTY CO.
