Gibson T Are you ready for school? While you werent looking, the start of the 1988-8- 9 school year has arrived and is less than three weeks away. Bert and I have noticed the return of fall as the morning temperatures drop. Also, the sun rise is later. The sun doesnt shine in most of the valley area until 7 a.m., this makes our 10 mile workout a bit on the chily side. Oh well, back to school. Time to dig out that information the high school sent out a few weeks ago, time to figure out how much its going to cost to put junior back into class. Funny thing about the free school system these days, it isn't free anymore. You not only have to fund the system with your tax dollars, you have to fund it with all the fee's that are required. Ucker fees, activity fees, book fees, shoe fees the only way your high schooler doesnt cost you a bunch is if her or she doent enroll in any of the good stuff. If yours in enrolled in ProVita, sports or cheerleading be prepared to have a major hemorage in your wallet. On the bright side of the coin if we funded all these activities with tax dollars, you would have to add a 25 percent handling fee. Handling fee you ask? Yup, thats the fee you pay when you pay taxes, so that someone can collect your money, count it, and then give back to you in the form of services less the cost of collection. Maybe the fees paid to the schools is a good idea after all. ong-ter- m John B. and Rosella Matthews Matthews to celebrate 63rd wedding anniversary In the state papers as of late, the Democrats are complaining that Governor Norm is giving back our money to us purely as a political ploy. I dont care why he and the legislature are giving it back, I am just glad that they are. The state surplus (make that the state overcharge) is projected to be $120 million, but like all good government they are going to keep $40 million that they overcharged us and save it for a rainy day (maybe to jump-staNorms pumps). Now hows that for a handling fee. The whole problem is that we, the taxpayers, will feel good about them giving us ,our money backwhen that check arrives. We should be mad that they overcharged us in the first place. I guess that the person who said that if your dont want government to spend all the tax money they get, was correct in saying that you shouldnt give them the money in the first place. Now, if we could just elect to office people who would be realistic about the needs, and the lack of needs, of government programs in the first place maybe we could control how the b..t..ds spend our money.
