March 29, 1979 Nephi City Council notes City OKs Nebo Heights wiring; agrees to refund renters' deposits The Nephi City Council learned at its recent meeting that the wiring at the Nebo Heights subdivi- r sion is not below standard, as had been previously reported. Gary Eassainer of Tasco Engineering and several represen- tatives of the Nebo Heights development company met with the council. Gail Bendoski Ann McPherson Jeanette Wilkey City manager Ted Anderson reported that Utah Power and Light had inspected parts of the electrical system and had said that it will carry the load, the transformers are adequate, and that the insulation meets electrical code. It had been reported at a council previous meeting that a preliminary inspection by Utah Power and Light had shown that the insulation might not meet the electrical code. Elementary school PTA sets election meeting for April 4 Gwyn Jolley Nine to vie for Miss Nephi crown April 7 Miss Nephi for 1979 will be selected next Saturday, April 7 at the Juab High School auditorium. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. There is an admission charge of $1 per person. Candidates for the honor are Gail Bendoski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Bendoski; Debra Foote, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Debra Foote Melvin Foote; Gwyn Jolley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jolley; Ann McPherson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth McPherson; Karen Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Morgan; Barbara Paxman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Paxman; Kelly Sundquist, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sundquist; Jan White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. James White; and Jeanette Wilkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wilkey. The contest is sponsored by Nephi City and the Twentieth Century Club. The contest master of ceremonies will be Mike Cowan. A former Miss Nephi, Lorie M. Orton, will perform. Sharon Paxman, the current Miss Nephi, will also be in attendance. The new Miss Nephi will receive a scholarship from Nephi City, $25 from both First Security Bank and Valley Bank and Trust, and $15 from Catalina. will receive The two runners-u$25 checks from NRP, Inc. p Tiaras for the winners and the Miss Congeniality plaque will be donated by Ted Chase. Eight by ten color portraits of the winners are being donated by Kimos Kamera. Services to be held today for Jay Mickelson Jay Clifton Mickelson of Nephi, 49, died March 25, 1979 in Salt Lake City of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. in the Nephi Third LDS Ward chapel. Friends may call at chapel prior to the services. Burial will be at the Manti City Cemetery. Mickelson was born May 24, 1929 in Duchesne to Clifton C. Mickelson. Nephi Lions Club. He was chairman of the Lions broom sale and glaucoma clinic. He was a past president of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Juab County Planning and Zoning Commission, an officer in the Kelly Sundquist Utah Restaurant Association, a director of the Nephi Community Credit Union, and a supporter of of U doctors to be at Juab County Hospital during April U Doctors from the University of Utah Medical Center will provide weekend emergency medical service for East Juab County residents for the next four weekends. The doctors will be at the hospital from noon on Saturday to 7 p.m. on Sunday, says David Peterson, administrator of the Juab County Hospital. Heard a report from Duane Bracken, chairman of the Nephi Library Board. Bracken said that the board is now in the process of Hunter safety classes to start April 5 at Na- tional Guard Armory Hunter safety classes for 1979 will begin next Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. The classes will be held each Thursday night in April at the Nephi National Guard armory. Prospective students should bring their $2 registration free to the first class. The classes will be taught by Richard Bean and Wallace Fack-rell. Under Utah law, anyone under the age of 21 years must present a valid certification card at the time they purchase hunting licenses. Mrs. John E. Hill of Nephi, recently completed requirements for a masters degree in business administration at Utah State University. He will receive his formal degree at graduation exercises in May. Hill received his bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Nevada at Reno. not much blaze! Fire does damage to Gadd home; fills neighborhood with smoke Firemen were called to the DeMar Gadd house at 55 West Seventh North in Nephi at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to assistant fire chief Cleston Park, a vent pipe from a wood stove had started a smoldering fire where the pipe exited the house. The fire had spread to the attic and basement through the wooden railroad ties used in the home construction. Those attending will select an election nominating committee. PTA officers will also present a $800 check to school officials to help purchase school playground equipment. The council, therefore, approved the Nebo Heights electrical system as far as it has been built with the stipulation that the subdivision would be responsible for any repairs necessary within the twelve months following the acceptance of the system by Utah Power and Light. V Firemen had to take a five by three foot section of stucco off the house to get to the fire. Mrs. Gadd reported Wednesday that the fire had started much earlier in the evening. Members of the family had thought that they had put out the fire. Later in the evening, though , Mrs. Gadd heard the fires popping sound as it continued to progress through the railroad ties that make up the walls of the house. I In addition to the structural damage, minor smoke damage to the home. No damage estimate was readily available. After the fire department put out the fire they used a large fan to suck out smoke in the homes attic and basement. I sure appreciate the fire department.
