The annual fall census of pheas ants throughout the state shows an average or better number of birds on hand for the 1955 sea- -, son, according to the Utah Depart ment of Fish and Game. The department said pheasant brood counts are taken each year during the month of August to determine success of the spring hatch and early rearing period. This information is then submitted to the Fish and Game Commission for that body's use in setting bag limits, length of season, and various other regulations covering the hunt,. The commission set the opening day of the annual pheasant hunt as November 11, some two months ago, to accomodate shooters wish ing to plan ahead for this event. All other regulations will be set September 23 and 24 during the fall quarterly meeting of the commission. These final actions each year await full information from the department as to the number of birds available for the fall harvest. Brood count totals this year I show an average of 5.41- - young birds per brood.
