Recreational Area Plan Given Unanimous Vote By Community Leaders Unanimous approval of the city plan for development of the recreational area was voted at the special meeting hold Wednesday evening at the Blue Room, when 50 representatives of 18 groups or organizations met to discuss the proposition. The committee appointed temporarily by Mayor P. L. Jones to cal the meeting, and consisting of Leland E. Anderson, E. Rulon Brough, William G. Peterson and K. J. Sperry was named a per manent committee by the meeting with the whole-hearte-d support of the clubs, church and civic organizations In perfecting the recreational area at the fair grounds. The committee also was given the 'ok' to select additional mem bers to work with them to bring the project to a speedy realization. Elimination of Sunday baseball, as well as providing a Jighted, permanent park for junior baseball, softball, and many other evening sports Is the goal of the group. They will meet In the near future to study costs, installation problems, parking problems at the area, and in general to get the project under way for accomplishment at the earliest possible date. Mayor Preston L. Jones of Nephi has been named on a statewide committee to study irrigation ditch and canal hazards which threaten the safety of small children. The committee has been named by the Utah Safty council. Findings and recommendations of the committee will be submitted to the Safety Council for review and final recommendations for action. In the announcement of the committee selection it was pointed out that drownings in Irrigation ditches have been increasing each year and that the Safety Council hopes that through recommendations of the committee such drownings way be averted In the future. In the feature address of the evening Mr. Henderson urged all Jaycees to take a more active interest in governmental affairs. The J. C. C. organization, stated Mr. Henderson, is the fastest growing service organization in America today. Since 1946 they have grown from few clubs in the country to over 2100 clubs with over 250,000 members. The Jaycee organization now extends itself to over 20 countries throughout the world. In his closing remarks, he said that in his opinion communism was not as big a threat to our freedom as was the apathy of the people towards governmental affairs.
