Levan News Happenings A Plea For Preparedness! BY THE STAKE PRESIDENCY, HIGH COUNCIL AND WARD BISHOPRICS We take this occasion to appeal to the people of Juab Stake to "LOOK FORWARD AND BE PREPARED"! The drain on government funds, county, city, state and nation, has been so great during the present emergency, that every public treasury faces a deficit and it now devolves upon everyone to look ahead and prepare to take care of themselves rather than depend upon future public relief funds We, who live in the country, must plan and plant, can and conserve, save and store, during the spring, summer and autumn, and thereby avoid suffering and want during the coming year. There will be no need for anyone going hungry if we all do what we can in advance to provide for ourselves. It is especially desirable that all those who have been receiving public aid shall do everything possible to provide food and fuel during the summer for the coming winter. WE CAN TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES 1. If each does his individual best. 2. If we cooperate. LET US THEREFORE: Be proud of what we can do for ourselves! Be independent! Be as the pioneers were! Be courageous! Be neighborly! Work together for the good of the community! PLANT AND CULTIVATE A GARDEN! Nothing you can buy or have given to you is so nutritious or good as the food you can raise In your own garden. DIG A STORAGE CELLAR ! Think of the fruit, vegetables and produce which go to waste during the summer! Think how much they may be needed during the coming winter by yourselves or" your neighbors! Get information from neighbors or the county agent or government bulletins on how to store vegetables. RAISE SOME CHICKENS, TURKEYS, HOGS, LAMBS OR CALVES! KEEP A COW! No food is so necessary for children as milk. If you have no farm and cannot buy hay, work on shares for hay. Many farmers cannot pay money' but will be glad to pay hay or grain. If you have no cow, borrow one for Its feed. Many farmers have surplus cows Which ou may get if ' you give them good care. v KEEP BUSY! Rustle for Jobs, but when you cannot gPt or yourself. Work in your garden, clean up the premhrs, mencf the untidy fences, trim the unshapely trees, haul wood for winter, rebuild the falling sheds, level up the unsightly ditch banks, gravel your walks, plant shrubs, trees and lawns, get rid of the rubbish and manure. Remember, "If the devil finds you idle, he will put you to work" and the devil's work Is neither profitable nor good for you. HELP THE WIDOWS AND THE AGED NEIGHRORS! Give them a lift by plowing their gardens, cleaning their premises, or hauling them wood, hay, fruit or produce. THE TIME TO BEGIN IS NOW! Planting time is here! Get the gardens growing! Remember the lessons of the pioneers! BE Be helpful! Be prayerful! Be courageous! Keep busy! Your brethren, a Johy-woj-- k Juab Stake Presidency, High Counril Ward Bishoprics Nephi.
