Impressive funeral services Saturday June 7 the Mona - - baseball team went to Ellberta and crossed bats with the Elber-t- a nine meeting defeat by a score of 5 to 1. Again the same teams met on the Mona diamond Saturday 14th inst. and again our boys went down to a defeat of 9 to 4. Notwithstanding our defeats it can be said of t h e local tesm that they played good ball, as they held the score down fairly well in both games and in view of the fact tjjat has one of the strongest teams in this section of the state. The Elberta team work is exceptional good and captain Mr. Smiley seems to handle his boys with great ease. Four of the five scpres Elberta made at Elberta were made in the fourth innings two of which were made on an overthrow from first to the home. There were no m o r e scores made by this team until the eighth inings when Mr. Simley made a clever little sacrifice play funning f r o m 1st to 2nd and got our boys interested in him while a man on scored another for the team. The score made by the Mona team wa3 made by Ed Carter in the second innings. The game played last week went nicely untfy the third inning and then sotiie more wild throwing gave the visiting team a lead of four tallies and kept a good big lead until the last innings when the home team ran in three of their four tallies,. The ball boys appreciated the financial support given at this game by the crowd present.
