In response to this environmental threat, AAA Utah is offering free switch removal and replacement during its first ever Mercury Switch Out program. Most people dont realize the cars theyre driving may contain mercury, explained Rolayne Fairclough, AAA Utah spokesperson. Luckily, replacement switches are equally effective and only take five minutes to install. Of the nearly two million cars registered in Utah, over 50 percent may contain mercury switches. With each switch containing nearly a gram of mercury, thats potentially hundreds of pounds mercury riding around Utahs streets and highways. Just one switch has the potential to pollute a 20 acre of lake. During the week of June AAA will replace mercury switches with new, switches at select locations, free of charge. It is highly toxic and does not easily breakdown over time. Devices containing mercury need to be treated with caution and recycled at an Humans can be exposed to harmful levels of mercury through the lungs, mouth or skin. The most likely source of mercury poisoning is eating contaminated fish. Salmon, trout, swordfish, and walleye are particularly susceptible to mercury contamination. In humans, mercury poisoning can cause irreversible brain damage and effect the liver, kidneys and central nervous system. Children are especially sensitive to mercury. Nephi Utah Stake Temple day June 12th In anticipation of stake conference, Nephi Utah Stake Temple Day will be held on Thursday, June 12. Hoc unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: This section of Scripture shows us Isaiah talking about the wicked of this world and their ways. lere he makes a comment that is as meaningful at the time of his writing as it is today. The wicked today draw on their iniquity, or another way of saying it is, they work hard at urging and promoting their wicked ways. Just as the ox pulls on the strong cords of the wagon, so do the wicked put great effort in drawing themselves and others to sin. The allurements of this world, the cords of lying (as cords frequently signifies), and the vain and deceitful arguments 1 are pretences used to draw men into sin. The wicked of Isaiahs day were as they are today. They ridicule Gods preachers, they will not fear Gods coming wrath, and they mock His soon return. One day they will stand before God; without Christ and without hope. Christians, those who have been saved by faith alone in Jesus alone, are the only ones who stand between the wicked and an eternity in hell. As Isaiah, we have a responsibility to pronounce Gods coming wrath and also His love. There is not one person in this world today that has to go through the coming judgment. The Bible is clear, if one will humble themselves by repenting and come to the Jesus of the Bible in simple faith, put all of their faith in Him and Him alone, they will be saved for all eternity. If the light goes on with the lid partially up, or if you can see that the bulb housing is mounted at an angle to the hood, a mercury switch is probably being IF ro raft Dm used. Generally, domestic cars manufactured before 2001, or imported cars made before 1992, are likely to contain mercury switches. The switches are not dangerous when they are used in a properly maintained vehicle, explained Fairclough. But once a vehicle is sent to the junkyard and deteriorates, the mercury contained in the switch leaks out into the groundwater, polluting our fish and water supply. Mercury is a neurotoxin that causes serious brain and nervous system damage in humans and wildlife. Area Weather From The Internet Wednesday... Highs near 80. Lows in the upper 40s Thursday...
