Town attorney, Denton Hatch, presented the necessary documents to the council. He explained that adopting the resolution would begin the process of obtaining a $28,000 loan from Rural ' Development. The town will be committed to annual payments of $2,675. The town will also receive $42,000 in the form of a grant from Rural Development. All monies are to be used for the purchase of fire for the town. equipment ' There is no question that we need a new truck," com- , mented Mayor Andrew Robinson. The council discussed an invitation by the director of the Miss Nephi Pageant to have Levan Young Women participate in the pageant. Mayor Robinson explained ' that the Miss Nephi Pageant - is the only pageant in the area-- ' that is sanctioned by the Miss Utah and Miss America pageants. At the present time, young women from Levan and Mona are not allowed to participate. A donation to the pageant of approximately $700 from Levan Town would open the door for Levan participation. The money is used to fund scholarships, promotion, a dress allowance for the participants, etc. The council felt participation in the pageant would be a positive experience for the young women, but felt the money could be used in other ways. After a lengthy discussion, the council voted to approve $300 for the Miss Nephi Pageant with the remainder being paid by those who wish to partici-- , pate. This arrangement is dependent on whether or not it meets the approval of The Miss Nephi Pageant directors. The General Plan for Levan Town was approved by the council. Residents may pick up a copy of the plan from the town hall. The public will have 30 days to review the plan and give input. A public hearing will be held before the plan is put into action. Residents of Levan can expect to see a charge for dog licenses on utility bills. Fortunately, three-whevehicles are no longer made, however, there are still enough old ones being used to worry him, he said.
