Jack Abbott of Abbott Custom Fixtures from Irvine, California, sent a letter to Freeway Cafe in Ogden. The letter cites a little accident with a server and requests payment of an invoice for $20 from Spot Cleaners. No one at the Freeway Cafe remembers any incident and the restaurant has encountered this type of scam before. The letter and bill were forwarded to the Better Business Bureau for follow up. The Better Business Bureau in Los Angeles reports that there is no listing of an Abbott Custom Fixtures or a Spot Cleaners in their files or the telephone directory. A call to the number listed on the companys letterhead reaches an answering machine. There is no address or phone number on the bill from Spot Cleaners. All of this adds up to a probable scam to collect money from unsuspecting restaurant that managers for has never been done. Managers and owners of restaurants are cautioned to verify any request of this nature. Any questionable mailings should be sent to the Better Business Bureau at 1588 S. Main St., SLC, 84115 for research and referral.
