Peace and tranquillity took a back seat to fighting fire. Days of tedious, hot work led to the successful containment of a 124,439 acre complex made up of five fires. We take fond memories of a community who warmly welcomed strangers, patiently put up with our noise and activity and was extremely supportive to our needs. Fire fighters are often gone from their homes for many weeks at a time and they appreciate feeling welcome in the communities they stay in. On behalf of all the fire fighters, your hospitality was greatly appreciated and made our fire fighting efforts easier FAMILYTRIP 'The Anthony Aguiar family of Fillmore won the Tip for a Family of Four for 3 days and 2 nights in Salt Lake City From left: Deby Coombs, secretary of the C of C, Clint AguiarStuiron the Nepn Aguiar, Robi Aguiar, and Jens Mickelson, president of the C of C. Deadline is Monday before 5 p.m. ntock Solid Internet Gateway Call hired a secretary to do all ambulance billings. The ambulance rates have been raised, but we have no idea how high. However, we do know that the revenue we generate should more than compensate our wages. We didnt get our pay checks the month of July because it seems the commissioners said we had too many EMTb on our payroll. Our pay checks cover only the actual time spent on the highways, not for all the time spent on call. Our on call time is free to the people. Vfe provide this as a community service, which involves 24 hours per day 365 days per year We are tired of being treated like we are employees of the county when we provide such a necessary service for the county. We asked for a raise to be considered and were told no because we are strictly volunteer. We have been at the same rate for at least the past 7 years. We hear twenty years ago this and 20 years ago that.A lot of things have changed in the last 20 years. Very seldom if evei; did you deal with hidden weapons on patients or contagious disease likeAIDS. Some patients or accident victims may be under the influence of cocaine or other Letters to the editor policy... That means No Long Distance Phone Bills, unlike America NeboNet Information Services some don't. The county has ting our ambulance station up to date. We were told this had been done. As yet, we have not seen anything in the way of improvement. We work damn hard with little compensation. What is impor tant to us is the service we provide. Our job is stressful, with a lot of strain and mental anguish. (Some sights will never be forgotten.) We do this job because we enjoy helping people. If we didnt we would have quit long ago. Citizens may be unaware that we have to keep our continuing education, currently involving 60 hours of training every three years including a written and practical test that must be passed within a certain percentage. We dont feel the commissioners had any right to withhold our pay checks for one day or thirty days. We have invited our commissioners to wear a pager not just for a day or two, but continually as we do, then perhaps they could see what itfc worth, and how much help we need. Comments from our townb people and our county are most welcome. Do we do our job or not? We feel you have the right to tell us negative or positive. East Juab County EMTs Ann C.
