Show Volume 34 Nephi, Leader Died In Salt Lake Sunday Funeral services were held here Thursday for James W. Pax-ma- n, 81, former resident and patriarch of Nephi, who died in Salt Lake City Sunday morning, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Paxman suffered a heart attack several weeks ago and later contracted an acute case of influenza. Speakers at the services for Mr. Paxman included Bishop George T. former bishop of the Edghill ward in Salt Lake City; I, H. Grace and Will L. Hoyt of Nephi, and Stayner Richards, presid ent of the Highland stake in Salt Lake City. Prayers were given by James E. Memmott of the South ward. bishopric, C. H. Grace, and the the dedication of the grave was by A. R. Paxman of Salt Lake City. Musical selections included two vocal solos by John Longden of Salt Lake City; a vocal solo by Evelyn B. Anderson; a vocal duet by L. P. Anderson and Mabel An derson; and a vocal trio, Blanche Ockey, Gertrude Duckworth and Elaine Paxman, accompanied by Mary Sells. Closing remarks were given by Bishop Cowan of the South ward Funeral services were also held at the Edghill ward in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. For many years, Mr. Paxman was a prominent business man and L. D. S. worker in central and southern Utah. He assisted greatly in the development of dry farming in Juab County, and for more than 20 years was operator of the Excelsor mercantile business la Neplti ana- - Eureka. Mr. Paxman was born in Salt Lake City, October 21, 1861, a son of William and Ann R. Keys Paxman. He attended the Brigham Young academy. Mr. Paxman filled two missions in England for the L. D. S. church. Ho served as counselor to his father in the Juab stake presidency for six year, and in December of 1897 was made president of the stake. On August 9, 1914 he was ordained a patriarch in the church. He was also Highland stake work director in the L. D. S. Welfare program during the time he has resided in Salt Lake City. He married Julia Sudbury March 1. 1888, Temple. in the Logan L. D. S. His wife died three years ago. Surviving are four sons: J. Walter, Clarence and William Paxman "of Nephi and Samuel G. Paxman of Salt Lake City; four daughters: Mrs. Vera 'P. Howell, Mrs. Julia Sloan, Mrs. Louise Pyper and Mrs. Emma Kingsford of Salt Lake City; two brothers: Edward Paxman of American Fork and Albert R. Paxman of Salt Lake City; a sister, Alice P.
