I f R . Washington 1732 In spite of the opposition of a number of the school officials from Salt Lake and other large districts this paper is of the opinion that the Winder bill which seeks to control the amount of levy which Boards of Education can fix should pass and become law as a matter of good business and in the interest of econ omy and tax reduction. The present law which is wide open, and makes the "Sky the Limit" is wrong in for principle and give a loophole waste and extravagance which it Is well to check. Let there be a limit to the amount of levy. 1799 -- WILL THEY MAKE GOOD? WASHINGTON, whose GEORGE celebrate next week knew about money. He had it. His words of wisdom were were always inspirational. I In view of the fact that there is considerable agitation to bring moving pictures into the public schools of the state, also the fact that there is a bill now in the legislature which seeks to give a wide interpretation of the present law relating to the use of schools, wehave clipped from a recent issue of the Provo Herald, the following editorial on the subject or th use of moving pictures in our schools, which seems to us loglcnl fcrd fair. picture theater owners ere united in their protest against House Bill 45, introduced in the Utah state legislature, and which is desig; amusened to permit ments in public school buildings. "The Daily Herald believes it important that motion pictures be clean and wholesome, and to attain this end it Is probable that the force of public opinion would be all powerful for the theater owner must, of cours, reckon with his box office, and that kfpps a close finger upon the public "Motion profit-makin- g The good picture wins, The clean picture draws a larger house than the unwholesome film. It Is profitable to give the public clean pictures, and competition compels the effort to obtain the latest and most attractive. Assuredly the motion picture theater Is an asset to any community, always supposing, of course, that it Is conduced In a manner to meet the approval of the public. First S mallpox pre-electi- Saving is well worth the e- From the present outlook at the Capitol the citizens and taxpayers of Utah are not going to get very much relief from the present tax burdens that are now crushing the life out or a large proportion of the people of this state, for instead of reduction, there seems to be a disposition among a number of the legislators to pile on even more burdens than the people already have. Never was a legislature elected with greater hopes of a reduction being made in state expenses than that of the present one. The very atmosphere prior to election seemed to be highly charged with this purpose and determination. The sole topic of conversation generally nded in what the next legislature would do in reducing state expenses. The present session of the legislature is now over half gone. Taxpayers who have been following the course of legislation to date, have seen very little effort being made to cut down the cost of state government. True, some members of the legislature have made an honest effort to fulfill their promises' and the desire of a majority of the taxpayers, but their efforts have so far been fruitless There is yet time for the present legislature to redeem themselves and make a record if they will get down to brass tacks. The people of the ttate want a real honest to goodness reduction in the cost of running this state. They want several state boards abolished, notably the Public utilities, Industrial Commission, Department cf Finance & Purchase. They want an end of bureaucratic government. They want an end of Capitol Hill legislation. They want one hundred per cent value on the dollar. They want e'ght hours a day and six days week from every man on the state payroll. And finally they want the legislature to boss the Job and say vhat money shall be spent, how it Fhall be spent, and where it will be spent. This is the real platform of a majority of the taxpayers of the State of Utah today. This is the program that was expected from the men who were elected last November by the votes of the taxpayers of Utah. The question that Is now uppermost in the minds of these same voters is: Will They Make Good? as a preventative against Art eaily presentation of the new Season's freshest and most delightful models in Coats, Dresses and Suits for women and misses.
