Show Tfc tn: STATE SEALS. NEW Wyoming anil Utah Hare Recently Had Theirs Made. The states of Wyoming1 and Utah 1 are recently had their seals made, and are now affixing them to all public documents emanating from the governor or secretary of state, says the Washington National Tribune. That of Wyoming represents a pedestal showing on the front an eagle resting U(on a shield. Upon the shield are engraved a star, and the ligure 44, leing the number of Wyoming in the older of admission to statehood. Standing upon the pedestal is the draped figure, of a woman modeled after the statue of The Victory at the Louvre, from whose wrists hang the finks of a broken chain. In the right hand slio holds a statf, from w liich floats a banner bearThis ing the words Equal Lights. suggests the political posifion of a woman in this state. On either side of the pedestal, standing at its base, are figures typifying the live stock and mining industries of Wyoming. the pedestal, and in the background, are two pillars, each supporting- a lighted lamp, signifying the light of knowledge. Around the pillars supporting these lamps are scrolls bearing the words Live Stock, Grain, Mines and Oil. At the base of the pedestal in front, are the figures 1SG9, 1S90, the former signifying the organization of the territory of Wyoming and tlP latter the date of its admission to Statehood-The seal of the state of Utah is well composed. xn eagle holds in its claws six arrows and a Norman shield. This shield bears a hive on a pedestal, about v. hieh the bees are humming. The word Industry is emblazoned across the top of the shield and the figures "IS 47 are shown at the. lower point. Behind the shield are crossed two flags of the United States. Around the outer edge of the shield are the words: The Great Seal of the, State of Utah, Two Hundred Tons Employed la the United States Annually. Taris green is the most useful and valuable of the arsenicals used as insecticides. As is well known, its action is more rapid and effective than that of London purple, and having a definite chemical composition it ought to be subject to variation in the amount of the active agent, arsenic. Its use as an insecticide lias enormously extended of late years, and upward of 2,000 tons are annually employed in the United States, besides 400 tons in Canada. The chief difficulty in using Baris green is the readiness with which it settles to the bottom of the tank or reservoir of the spraying apparatus. This is because it is a rather coarse powder, very much less finely divided than London purple, which latter fact gives the purple a certain advantage. A recent conversation with one of the leading manufacturers of Baris green has brought out the fact that this coarseness of grain and the accompanying difficulty' in using Baris green in water suspension is quite unnecessary. that the market has hitherto seems demanded a very dark colored article, the lighter color having been deemed to indicate adulteration. It seems, however, that the darker color is simply due to the larger size of the crystals. If the green were reduced to an impalpable powder, which would make it much more satisfactory as ah insecticide, it would lose the intensity of its color and become whitish. This manufacturer tells me that for a number of years he was able practically to control the market, because he had discovered a means of crystallizing the green in unusually a very large particles, securing product, although he was aware that for the use inso obtained tended the product was much less valuable. Yet die darker green, with its accompanydiffiing larger sized crystals, is more exhence and manufacture to cult pensive.
