A. miSMIMi Mce FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 1898. Wilford Woodruff Dead. the reneralale Wilford Woodruff, of Christ of Chursh of Jesus head the Latter-da- y Saints has passed awav to shore the great beyond. In the death of that great and good man the Mormon people have lest a father and a friend. It would be impossible for us to enumerate his tuaoy good qualities; of his greatness of heart; of his untiring perseverance in the care of the flock over which and well-fahe had been placed by the instrumentality of divine revelation as their prophet, seer and revelator. Ilis career is without a blemish, and even the bitterest opponents of the Mormon faith concede that he was one ef the brightest minds that paved tbe way for western civilization and independence. Who is there that can tell of the troubles and trials tnat Willord Woodruff passed through in order to reach that goal which his maker had assigned for him to reuch. Who can tell of the s s and which he had to endure for the sake of the gospel which he has seen tit to bear testimony to, thousands upon thousands of limes. Surely if the thinking person would only stop to consider the question. such words us fanatics and imbecility would uot be directed at s man or set of men or wonieu who unflinchingly stand the butts and sneers of this life for a religious faith which they strongly testify to as God given. Brother Woodruff was e nobleman in the strictest sense of the word and was ever mindful of the interests of the children which he hud under his care, lie was ever on the alert to advance the interests of Utah and all her .citizens whether in the church or out of the chureh are indebted in a sense to his untiring efforts in the advancement of this great commonwealth. We are thankful that those not of tbe Mormon faith have seen lit to bear testimony to his unimpeachable character, to bis unswerving attitude io the path of duty, and to the generous lecognition of all classes of people as his brethren irrespective of lies, politically, religiously or socially and it is in such integrily that the world at large has seen fit to extend a sympathetic hand to his family In this hour when thev are called to depart from tho friendly counsels and teachiega of Brother Woodruff. Iu reverence to his purity of character we take oil our bat and with bowed bead thank God that WilforJ Woodruff was perm'tted to live to the ripe old age which be attained. re heart-burning- beait-break- tic at br some year-Cnttrell John AS to Mr. J.
