The producing company, under the direction of Dunworth& Spof-for- d, Miss Annie Cleveland, a young actress who was very pop-- ular in Salt Lake last season, will ba its leading lady. She will be supported by a carefully selected company of players. The play is of a stirring nature, dealing with some per sonages. The author has us d as the basis for his story a letter now in the possession of the Philadelphia Historical Society, written byCapt. Wilford Fairfax to Mi-- s well-know- n Virginia Preston, a noted Colonial Belle. The letter fell into the hands of Lord Henry Carleten, a Major of horse in Lord Howes, dragoons, and an unsuccessful! suitor for the ladys hand. Lord Henry promptly caused Virginias arrest and she was tried as a traitor and condemned. Some time after Lord Henry killed Virginias brother in an unfair duel, but he afterwards met his own fate at the hands of Capt. Fairfax at the fall of York! own. ft It is a famous old play, hearing in every line the spirit of 76, and is justly c debrated as one of the most famous of patriotic dramas The story cf Virginia ' Treston ie one of the most romantic episodes of the many authenticate 1 tales of self sacrifice and devotion on the part of the woman of Revolutionary times, and in making his play Mr Roberts has told it gracefully. The play requires a splendid dress and costuming which will be given it. The scenery is all new and no detail will ba neglected in the matter ol stage investiture. a The appeal has been made by various citizens and this paper several times to the people to clean up the sidewalks. Some have seen the point and complied with the requt but the majority have done nothing. Clean them up and make tie town look like some one lived here n A a sleepy dead villiage. It means a be ter impression on the tniudsof the visitors and valuation of the proan perty. Depot street is in a frightful c mdition from main street down to the depot, notld.tg but rubbish or insects the tntire length. The rubbish is so covered with weeds that a lady would almost ruin a white diess by passing up the sidewalks and if the streets are wet it is almost impassible. This street is not much worse than many others but its prominence should be an incentive for the city and the property owners to clean it up.
