July lth i2 2 Work vs. Pleasure. When a certain thing is done in an effort to earn an honest dollar that tbirg is called work. If the same thing, or a more diflicult task is accomplished, merely to piss the time, it is called pleasure. A man wiil toil up and down hill, through brush and over boulders in search of game, and como back in the oveniug worn, tired and hungry, with a glowing account of how he had Keen a deer on the rid,ge, just across a valley. This is reckoned as a great day's pleasure. If that fume man was paid f2.50 a day for the same work you would hear him grumble that it was worth twice that "amount and this with six-mil- i one-hal- e premi-healthfula- justice. If, on bleak stormy days, wo were compiled by necessity to'go down to McCunc's ranch and wade through bogs and morasses all day in search of lue.ks. for $0 n day, and come back in the evening worn to a frazzle, with oniy two little snipe worth loc, we would think we were in liard luck; yet v,e have lots of young men who do just that thing and call it great pleasure. Some people receive great pleasue from drink. They spend all their money for this pleasure, and devote their fall attention and at lcat twenty hours a day to its pursuit. Pay one of these people fifteen dollars a week to disorganize his internal ma chinery with adulterated alcohol and drugged malt liquors; have it in the contract that he must take enough to make him sick at the stomach once evhours, and make him sleep on ery twenty-fouhard benches and attend to h's duties till 1 o'clock . burn-that-o- 1 de-th- I m X S i i i - -' nt c mor insnti.ihln nmr . ... . , , tilf nrnl fir li determinations to broik' down and demolish those bars. of July will soon be here.
