Salt Lake Midsummer Carnival. Salt Lake City, May Every maD, woman and child in Utah can not help but be interested in the grand Midsummer Carn'val, to be held in Salt Lake City, June 2d, 3d and 4tb. The most extensive" preparations have been made for the greatest social and educational pleasure out that ever transpired in the intermountain country. The original scheme was projected by II. F. who largely helped to make the Chicago Worlds Fair and the San Francisco Midwinter Fair so successful, He laid his carnival ideas before the Chamber of Commerce of Salt Lake, a meeting of citizens was called, and the scheme again rehearsed, and m less than two weeks time the entire departmental committees were appointed and the funds subscribed, necessary to make the carnival an assured success. The programme for three days festivities is a most elaborate one as formulated by the entertainment ' committee, and will prove a source of great joy, pleasure and profitable entertainment to the tens of thousands who will visit Salt Lake from all over Utah. 'The Queen of the Carnival will be elected by popular vote, and in each county in the Statea Queen will be likewise elected, and the codnty queens will act as maids ofhonor to the Queen of the Carnival. ' The program is arranged that on the first day the Queen of the carnival will take possession of the city, be given the keys and rule supreme. This important ceremoay will take place at the Joint Building; the Governor, Mayor of Salt Lake and ciyic and military organizations participating. She will be met at the depot by the thousands of her loyal subjects, and with royal pomp and regal glory she will be escorted to the Joint Building, and will hold her Court in all the splendor of the Orient. On a throne outshining in splendor that of Cleopatra, erected in the grand entrance to ihe Joint Building, surrounded by her County Queens as maids of honor; and by soldiery courtiers, officials and civilians she will hold her Court and issue her Commands which will be a pleasure to obey. After these ceremonies, the Queen will be carried In a palanquin of cloth of gold, decorated with the Sego lily, to a magnificent float, and take. her seat oa a throne of silver, sur-rourded by her adoring maids of honor, guards, lackeys, etc. The float, which will be the most beautibj. creation ever seen in the West, will be drawn by thirty white horses, each led by a knight iu heroic costume, and a parade of the streets made. On the evening of the first day a grand patriotic concert will be given at the Tabernacle, by native sons and daughters. The second day will be Childrens Day, and will constitute a floral festival. The school children will participate m a body, after electing their Floral Queen. All the floats will be of floral design, and on the great masses of flowers the children will rest while riding in the parade. In the evening the grand ball iu honor of the Queen of the Carnival and her retinue will be held at the Salt Lake Theatre. The (kcorationa and arrangements for this event will be the mo4 elaborate and oxpnsive ever rusunb'd ia the country. On the Fourth of will occur the grand parade of July the carnival.
