Gen. Maxwell . Rich announced. The change will affect about 4,500 men in 25 communities. It is pending final approval of the National Guard bureau in Washington, D. C., to provide additional funds for two noon meals a month for each guardsman. Army National Guardsmen will train an average of one weekend a mounth rather than once weekly in the evening, as under the present training program, Gen. Rich said. The new plan will just about dublc the number of effective training hours for each guard member and will produce more combat ready units, the Utah adjutant general believes. Other expected advantages to be gained by the switch are a talking point for recruiting additional guardsmen, greater participation by current members, and an attraction that will help rcta'n members. The montnly training assem-- ! blics will normally be held eight hours each on Saturdays and Sundays.
