THE ROMANCE OF HERBS Prepared by Maxine L. Cook 1903 E. 4800 So., CK "And in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb ycilding seed and the fruit tree." From the beginning of time, herbs have had their place. And the history of their use goes back beyond the dark ages. Yesteryear they were spellbinders and good luck charms. Today they work their wonders in the kitchen. Their use and history has come to us from many lands, the Orient. Italy, Spain, India, Ceylon, Africa and the Continent. As we learn more of these far off places, we also learn of their food habits and find ourselves enjoying new taste thrills. Many of these have a story or history that goes with them and it makes them more interesting to use and if we tell the story to our families they may be more eager to try a new dish, for instance: give it away, to get it you must steal it.
