Jayeees Hear Ken Wiscomb NEIGHBOR STAFF WRITER By Leslie Wagner King (Editors Note: If yon have a question about your writing, send in a imall specimen which can be used in this co'.umn.) According to a recent government study, the U.S. can look forward to an expected increase of 64,000 new engineers needed yearly to Inpet ordinary business expansion. This will he in excess of the normal number of replacements regularly required yearly. The survey was part of a study by the Lahor Depart- - ments Bureau of Lahor Statistics. It was made to ascertain which fields are expanding and where the countrys need of highly trained personnel will be concentrated by 1970. By that year, the study indicates, total employment of engineers will be approximately one and one half million: a 90 percent increase over engineers employed In 1959. The writing shown in this week's specimen includes many character traits and abilities that, when developed, would suggest an aptitude for some branch of engineering. Ken Wiscomb, a member of the board of directors of East Millcreck Little League, was guest speaker at last weeks meeting of the East Millcreek Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr Wiscomb informed the Jaycee members that the league had just obtained use of property on Ei Serrito Drive (3500 South). They planned to put in a playing field and need backstops fencing and dugouts. The Jaycecs voted unanimously on March 14 to support the program. .. f The writing shows evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility illustrated in the enlarged loop at Ihe beginning of "Mrs, first Offer good until April 14 Coupon good for on one gallon 50' Bennett's Paint APPLIANCE HARDWARE 2327 Open Sundays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. HU E. 3300 So. 34 line. A proportion- ately smaller loop appears in the Mrs", second line which is indicative of another character trait and does not demonstrate the desire for responsibility. Thus the size of the loop must be carefully noted. Wanting to assume responsibility and having the ability to handle it are two separate character traits. In the letter from which this specimen was clipped, the ability to justify being trusted with responsibility is shown as well as the desire for it. The writer also has the ability to think independently. This is shown i n the comparatively short t" stems. d" and Throughout the writing a tendency to see and take advantage of opportunity as it arises is also indicated. Circumstances may have prevented this writer from developing the trait. These arc but a few of the traits that one might expect to find in the writing of an indivi dual with an aptitude for some branch of engineering. There is another consideration also; that of attitude. Phillip II. Vivian president of Co. in Chicathe Welzcl-Viviago and grapho analyst main tains that a consideration of attitude as well as aptitude is necessary when selecting employees for a specific job. When screening men tor executive posiions in his firm he relics solely upon the scientific approach of grapho analysis to determine their attitudes. When using grapho analysis to determine talent or ability there are also many alternatives from which the applicant may choose a vocation suited to sex, age and financial circumstances. An individual with the traits discussed in this writing would also be successful in writing, some field of research, etc. one finds "us. n A fI izing is the key ... but it must be wisely employed.
