Show f Walleyed Pike Continues Battle Begin Run Provo River In The annual run of the walleyed pike has now started in the lower reaches of the Provo River, according to Department of Fish and Game spokesmen. In keeping wih their established annual timetable the first fish made their appearance in the stream on March 8. Within several days the spawning run was well under way. As is typical with most fish species the first fish to head for the spawning grounds were the males. Female fish will head upstream in numbers within the next week or two. Once again this year fishing will be permitted for these game fish during the early part of the run. When the female fish arrive over the spawning beds in abundant numbers, however, the stream will be closed to angling by posting closed waters" signs. Purpose of this procedure according to department officials is to enable the fish to complete their spawning cycle without being molested. The good water year is expected to produce larger stream flows and result in more efavor-abl- e spawning conditions.
