Show r Advertising Tax Proposal Miss Golightly Engaged To Cited by Expert W. D. Parker It just had to come to it eventually the move now is tux advertising. But it is the considered opinion of Lee Fondren, Denver, president of the Advertising Association of the West, that advertising is not a commodity and therefore should not be taxed. Mr Fondren offered this view at a recent meeting of the Salt Lake Advertising Club at the Hotel Utah, at which he was a guest speaker. As a result, all levels of government are seeking new sources of taxes. In that respect we sec numerous bills being introduced at all levels to put some sort of tax on part of advertising, he said. For examples, in some stales you now have taxes on subscriptions of magazines, newspapers, and other publications. In other areas, there have been some laws enacted and others proposed to tax advertising budgets. Up to now, he said, in most areas advertising costs have been deductible. Now there is a growing feeling that this is justifiable source of revenue." However, those of us in advertising maintain that advertising is not a commodity, that it is a means of communication between the seller and the buyer, and that it should be left free, ho said. Now is a good time to apply phosphate. The winter moisture will carry it down to the root zone so that it can take effect when plants start to grow in the spring. About one half pound of a 45 per cent phosphate fertilizer per 100 square feet of soil surface applied now may make your garden the envy of all your neighbors next summer. Next spring you will probably want to apply a nitrogen fertilizer to your garden and lawn area.
