He was born Sept. 12, 1868 in Draper, a son of Absalom W. and Louisa Osborn Smith. He moved to Salt Lake City at the age of 18 to attend the University of Utah, then the University of Deseret. After teaching school for two years he turned to agriculture as his vocation. He became a well known fruit grower. On Dec. 23, 1898, he married Francis Neff in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in 1926. The following year he married Emma Horman Clare. An active LDS member, Mr Smith fulfilled a mission in the Northwestern States from 1919 to 1921 and is presently a high priest in the East Millcreek Fourth Ward. He has three daughters, Mrs William (Emma) Potter, Mrs Vernon (Alice) Osgulhorpe, and Mrs C. Gilbert (Alice) Horman, Salt Lake City; two stepsons, John C. Tyler Orange, Calif., and Melvin L.
