Show After the leader has received the contact for the gig and worked out the details, he starts getting his group together. Con- trary to popular bellet, the combo does not sit around day and night waiting for a gig. More often than not, the musicians have full time Jobs or go to school. The leader must try to let the group know about the forthcoming job far enough in advance so that shifts in schedules may be arranged. If, say, the piano player cannot make it due to finals in school, it is up to the leadertofinda substitute that can fill in.
