He was talking about the students of Wasatch Jr. High School and the problems they face in transportation. "Just getting to and from school is a big problem, ne went on. "It seems simple to me , " I told him, "Why not just walk from your place on 3500 East?" "You ever try It T he asked me. When admitted I I hadn't he diagrammed the had he to take home Trom school. path "I go north for a short block and up a dirt path then down through the jungle. You know, not a real jungle, but mud, no trespassing signs, dogs, and that kina of stuff. " I understood there Is a school bus serving this area and I asked him about zig-zaggi- ng that. "The regular school bus won't let us ian says you gotta be two miles or from school. That's Vivian Chadwick. She lives down about 3000 South on 3380 East. They pick her up and bring her home, too." "If the bus gets across the gully all right, why can't you?" The young fellow looked at me like I was too dumb to answer but he did. "That bus wanders all over picking up passengers and still has to return to Wasatch Blvd. and down to 3850 South to get to school. Wow I What a bottleneck. When I'm lucky enough to snag a ride this narrow lane Is clogged with everybusses, pedestrians, bicycles " thing. I suggested that he could use the big gray bus, rather than walk. "You wouldn't catch me riding that bus. I canlt afford nearly 25 a day out of my allowance for bus fare. Charles and Rod ride it, though. That's Charles and Rod Engar. They live up in the East-wosection, about 3800 South and 3400 so was expected to stay on my bike when I lived on 13th East, then?" I asked him if he had some solution for any of these transportation problems. He had. . "If we could get some way of getting through that gulley, it sure would help. It could be easier walking, closer on my bike and if dad or mom wouldn't get tied bring up in the bottle nect, they would me to or from school oftener. " " But you'll have to admit, " I observed "that you really don't live too far from school. "Not if you're a crow and could fly in a straight line. . . . But I'm not a crow. " MEAT od East. " "I didn't know the bus went up so high." "It doesn't. They either have to walk down the hill or their dad brings them. " "But, Dan, you've got an ace in the hole. . . . your bike. " "Yean? Look at the rip in these pants. M: The best prices on top meat nd you're welcome to come in when we cut your meat I --a- See us for halves, quarters whatever you want cut to your liking ! J Know how I got that? Going to school on my bike. When I moved up here I rode my bike across the street on the way from school, the policeman hollered at me and told me to get off and push the thing across, then I started down the street and ne told me to use the gravel path. Well I skidded, slid and ripped not only my pants but my saddle bag, too. Haa " it Seen hard topped, I wouldn't of slipped. I explained to Dan that I thought these rules were for his protection. He wasn't convinced. --c the street and 0 SELECT NOW FROM OUR BIG STOCK $1.00 HOLDS YOUR SELECTION Madam Alexander V'; I DOLL BUGGY GREETING' CARD DOLLS CHILDS BIKE $1.98 Reg 5 . 98 $4.88 SETS 29C to $3 $27.88 Dis5!
