Show Ninety Needed . . . Teacher Shortage Listed The Granite School District Board of Education listed 90 vacancies for teachers in the district which still must be filled before- school begins. Seventy of the vacancies exist in elementary schools, and more than 20 in secondary schools. At the Aug. 7 meeting of the board, two executives were appointed. Mrs Estelle Tucker was named district supervisor of English. She has taught in both Salt Lake and Granite high schools. John Reed Call was named principal of the new Granger High School. The former counselor at Kearns Junior High is completing studies for his doctorate at Stanford University, The district superintendent pointed out that there will be more than 3,800 students attending double sesssions when school begins next fall. The opening of new schools should cut this number down to more than 1,100 soon after the school ; doors open. A suggestion was made that the school year be extended to 240 days to relieve some of the pressure that the increased stu-- 1 dnt load and shortage of teachers is creating. However no action was taken on the matter. The board was also informed that tKe mill levy on taxes to support the district may drop from 5G to 53.2 mills because of the increase in property valuation in the district.
