Show 6WRREP PA6E Holladay Eve Parade At A Glance r? rr 7 v;,-.- V'W :t: v.s;i v. ' ?. -; -- h " " Construction Workers To Push UF Drive cam- paign receives an carry boost Monday when scores of Salt Lake construction workers to a program in which they donate an hours work1 each day this week to the Fund. Wallace L. Smith is chairman of the construction division for the appeal, while Jesse M. Payne, secretary, Salt Lake Trades Council, is Building serving as vie? chairman with Mr Smith. Mr Smith said, as the construction program began, It is my hope that all persons employed in general engineering or building construction trades will be solodly behind United Fund workers with money contributions and pledges signed. Harold 0. Molitor, general campaign chairman for the 19G2-6campaign, said there are some 7,000 employees who are involved in the construction week program which includes all persons employed in general or building construction. The AFL-CIBuilding Trades Council and Employer Contractor Associations ali endorse and sponsor this program. The Construction Division has three They are General Contractors headed by Robert (Bob) Weyher. Home Builders, headed by Richard Prows; and headed by Thomas (Bish) sub-scrili- 3 Perhaps most of us in Salt Lake County have been too busy to know what has been going un or what developments haw been made in the direction of the proposed stadium. There also may be a misunderstanding of its purpose and who is sponsoring it. As I understand, it is being sponsored by three state institutions, the State Fair, the U. of U., and the state legislature, thus making it a state of Utah project. In this ease it should accommodate the entire state. In order to do this it should be athletically complete; that is, so constructed as to provide parking space, convention halls, stadium or stadiums for all such events, not only for the U. of U., or the State Fair, but, for intercollegiate events, high school contests, in fact all schools of our state for musical events, political events, dancing, skating, oratorical contest, tanks and swimming, golf, tennis, etc. It must be so placed that people can come to it by bus, by car, by plane, by coach, and by monorail. We all know that such necessities cannot be provided within the present boundaries of Salt Lake City. We must, therefore, select a place outside the present city boundaries to achicvt these accommodations. Because of this, I, as well as some others, have been trying to find a suitable location that will afford us all these accommodations. The one place that I, personally, think would be ideal for this purpose is located Riverton-Drape- r on highway and 7th West. Here, there is an immediate opportunity secure, not just 10 acres, as in Salt Lake City, but 37 acres, ground sufficient to develop into such an institution. On this 37 acres can be built one stadium about 1,500 feet long and 900 to 1,000 feet wide with a capacity of 120,000, another stadium 400 feet long and 300 feet wide (three stories) each with approximately 15,000 capacity. The floors of the top stories can be automatically rolled back under the bleachers so that all three stories (or rather sets of bleachers) can be used to accommodate a capacity of up to 25,000 when necessary. In addition, there will be room for 10 to 13 other convention halls varying in capacity from 150 to 5,000. Also will Jae found room for tanks and swim ming. And in addition there will be room for a cafeteria (one acre floor space,) rest rooms, dressing rooms, eating plant, air conditioning, skating, both roller and ice. And finally we still have seven acres for parking which by terracing can be increased to 80 or more acres for parking. This parking terrace can be so arranged as to provide 10 entrances and exits, 8 of which will be on the level of the road, thus making it possible to have 10 cars entering and 10 cars leaving at the same moment. Another important feature not heretofore mentioned is that these stadiums as well as many of the convention halls will be built of earth and concrete, thus providing fireproof facilities, a matter not to be overlooked. Such a project I am offering for the citizens of Utah to think over and act upon. William II.
