J The Serving ft Kiel Southeast SaH Laic Wednesday, January 3, 1962 Communities of Candy Not Cause of -- Dog Poisonings Reports of 17 dog poisonings in the Murray area recently has stirred concern for the safety of children inasmuch ss it was thought the mishaps were caused by tainted candy canes. But the . po'son candy cane theory was discounted Friday by a report from the state chemist his analysis proved there to be no strychnine or other poisons in candy canes found near the bodies of poisoned dogs in the area, according to Cal Gillen, assistant chief of the Murray Police Dept. There was strychnine found in the stomachs of some of the poisoned dogs, however by the chemist, M. Elmer Christensen. No new poisonings werp reported Thursday or Friday, leading authorities to believe the rash of dog deaths was a one shot affair. Some of the animals were poisoned while confned in their own pens and kennels.
