Show I monday, 2 april 16, 1978 Settlement with MGM and UA not the coup Alioto hoped for United Artists and MGM have been dropped as defen- dants in a $5 million anti-tru- st suit filed in Utah federal court by Syufy Enterprises. Syufy attorney Joseph said a settlement was reached with the two movie distributors during a hearing Ali-otioJ- r., last week before Judge Aldon Anderson. He would not disclose terms of the settlement. The San Francisco lawyer initially considered the dismissal a coup, since UA had filed a motion recently asking that Alioto be dismissed from the case for conflict of interest. But it appears the settlement will have little effect on that motion. United Artists contends Alioto visited its offices and obtained operational information prior to adding UA to the list of defendants. The information, UA claimed, could be used against it in court. MGM was also a latecomer to the actions defendants. The Syufy suit could set a precedent in blind bidding practices used nationwide in the motion picture industry. Blind bidding is a system used to let contracts on movies without first allowing theater operators to view the film. How would you feel if you had to offer money and sign a contract for a car youd never seen? asked Alioto. "Theater operators are the only people in the country who are expected to buy something without seeing it first, and this is a he grossly unfair crime, charged. A hearing on the motion to dismiss Alioto has been tentatively rescheduled for May 15. At that time Alioto said he will also request a cut-of- f date for discovery and a Nov. 1 jury trial. ..S ScbdqqQ Flare"up but department of registration EkxQaDo to QOS tfGOQS BOODODOOOQO'o $ n ft nothing really happened. The law calls for two contractors with master electrician licenses to be balanced by two master electrician employees, and a member of the public to cast a tiebreaking vote. Currently, there are four master electricians, only two of whom are practicing, and one contractor. tooa'DD bOO Od DdsododocmjQ We are Julie Rex and Jim Lundahl, directors of Camp Bear Lake at Sweetwater.
