L.T.D. considered by Chamber The Salt Lake area Chamber of Commerce plans to set up a political action committee primarily because business groups failed to effectively coordinate with one another during the past legislative session. The Chambers government affairs director, Randy Horiuchi, says plans are only in discussion stages, and we are not sure what will come out of them. The Board of Governors is talking about two alternatives: g Setting up a committee for specific candidates, or setting up a fundraising committee for specific fund-raisin- issues. Horiuchi said the National Chamber of Commerce has been urging its regional affiliates to set up political action committees for some time. But it wasnt at their suggestion that the local chamber initiated discus- sions. It was the latest session's poor, all around coor- dination among business groups that prompted us to do something positive about our participation in the political arena, he said. Horiuchi expects something to be done within the next month or two. The Board cant wait too long to get this thing going, he commented. o o G 243 West 400 South 533-815- 9 QOQOOOOOQOQQOOOOQOQO Business formations, increased across the board in Utah during January, registering anyw'here between 17 percent and 125 percent gains over December.
