Show The Enterprise Review , May 12, 1976 Page 2b Utah Domestic Car Sales Slump Imports Continue Strong While the nation surged into 1976 with a 50 percent increase in domestic car sales. Utah car sales for the first three months increased only 40.21 percent. Nationally, 14 car sales decreased foreign percent. In Utah, import sales fell only seven percent. Utahs auto sales picture didnt change radically because Utahs economy is not cyclical. It is not a one-indu- try state, explained Max Lunt, executive vice president of the Utah Auto Dealers Association. Small import cars just dont work when it comes to pulling a trailer up a hill, Lunt said. Since a car is a postpone-abl- e h, purchase, automobile sales figures reflect peoples overall buying attitude better than most other statistics, Lunt said. When people feel better about the economy, they make purchases that were postponed during a more depressed attitude, explained.
