Youth Center Opens 1 iiir,' ' : rcr Murray City's Youth Center ! opened last Saturday evening, 1 two days before Mayor Smith's administration became the new at Murray. I city government intended this week for was It I I "Around Town" to bring you the I city commission's plans for the I .ni;.. club. Mayor Smith informed me that fa special meeting is to be called when J for Thursday (tonight), I more definite plans and arrange ments will be known. That storv will be brought to ! you next week. . . . b:; I I Filled with the former USO I furniture, a new floor and some paint, the old NYA building I makes a very good teen-ag- e club. Under former Mayor Hansen s plans, the club would be opened for three nights each week. Since this information was made public there have been two 1 reactions. 1 First, the parents of the city believe this three-nigarrange 4 ment is very satisfactory. I Second (and very contrary to I the first) is the general opinion that the club should be opened four nights a week and Sunday afternoons. This opinion is viewed by most This is just one of the many problems that will have to be or solved not by the the parents or the city commission, exclusively but by the committee which will direct the project. It is the opinion of this writer that, under the new city commission's direction, this committee will be able to direct the affairs i of. this club in. a manner that will i .i ana ineir please ooin parents. view with Miss Maida Bagley, the new librarian at the Murray Public Library. Miss Bagley is very friendly and likable and impresses you, upon first meeting her, as a very intelligent person. Born in Richfield, Utah, Miss Bagley has spent most of her life in southern and central Utah. She has been assistant librarian at the Provo Public Library for the past five and a half years. Mrs. Leah Killpack, president of the library board during 1945, stated that Miss Bagley came to Murray highly recommended by Dr. J. C. Moffit, superintendent of the Provo school district. The new librarian is a graduate of Ephraim high school and has attended the L.D.S. Business college, the Brigham Young university, Snow college, and was a student at the Library School of Southern California. Miss Bagley and her mother plan to live here in Murray as soon as they can find living accommodations. At present Miss Bagley is traveling each day to and from Provo to occupy her new post here. Miss Bagley is an efficient librarian, realizing that "there Is still a great deal of work to be done at the library." Miss Bagley will undoubtedly prove to be an excellent successor to Mrs. Helen Parker Gibson. Dr. James Clove reported this week that the Muray school funds have been audited recently by Clair M. Mortensen and Associates and found in good condition. Miss Gem Gaufin received a "pat on the back" when the auditors reported that they found the lunch funds record for the Mur- ray schools the most complete and well kept of any they had examined in local schools. Next Friday at 4 p. m. all elementary teachers here have been invited to the Murray public library to study suggestions for students' use of the library. The board of education will meet next Monday to elect a new president of the board to take the place of Ernest Smith, who is resigning to take over his duties of mayor. Dr. Clove also reports that the flu epidemic here is on its way out, with most of the children back in their seats at the various schools in Murray. conference for Cottonwood stake wil1 be held 'on Januarv 18 and 20 at Murray First ward.
