Subscriptions 1 year in advance: $1.00, Salt Lake County; elsewhere in U.S.: $2.00 Mr-- : GOING, GOING The year 1942 is failing fast away and Santa Clans and his helpers arc on the stage to set off the fun for the children. 1942 Many people have encountered drastic changes in their mode of life during the current year. Sugar rationing was a shock and kept up interest for weeks with the problems it brought about. Gas rationing is even more severe and has not yet been absorbed in its many implications by the folks. Not yet can we fully realize that it is not possible to ride where and when we wish. The full realization is on the way and then the inconveniences will be many. Going to the store and not being able to buy a zipper is something small and yet it shows a great change from not so long ago. Then the sight of the butcher shop with empty shelves and not the meat you want is rather disturbing. News that the people of the United States will not go hungry is being spread. Then they say ice cream will be manufactured only in quantity much less than for a long time past. No more typewriters for sale. Kven the typewrticr you have is longed for by Uncle Sam, if what you hear is true. What will be missing next from our list of needs and desires is unknown but it will be plenty, according to the large and small fry in the news spreading organizations. Small radio stations arc to have a meeting to ascertain whether the government can arrange some plan for them to continue in business as their revenue is depleted. Cafes close up and say come back in six hours after wc rest up as we are worked out and must close on account of too much business. Telephone advertising asks us to stay away from the phone and in wc do use it to be short in talk and fast in hanging up. Formerly the railroads had pictures of people luxuriating in large trains dashing across the nation, while smiling waiters scrvciTtheni rich food. The ads then went on to say that you, too, could be happy riding and eating. That you really owed it tp your relatives to get out and sec them and be seen. Now they say to stay away from our trains. The trains arc full of soldiers and you ought to stay at home and save your money for ar Bonds.' A few short months ago, wc felt important reading requests for our trade, but now the public is in the dog house and they say to be your All these things arc of small importance against age or self and not to bother them, the problems of the families with members at the battle lines. They arc the real sufferers in such a struggle. They arc obliged to remain at home and wait for news. Their only consolation can be the knowledge that all information is that the soldiers arc well trained and equipped. It is fine to know that the officers of the fighting forces of the United States are instructed to lead their men into the battles and not stay in a safe place and take only the credit for the bleeding of others. 1942 has found the United States giving their enemies some of the hard knocks that said enemies have been needing for such a long time. If the axis men think war and dying such splendid affairs it is encouraging to know' that American men arc going to give the enemy a very quick death and a lot of it. It would appear that this was even for a political or otherwise project. The OPA bonk of 90 pacs of rules is also heavy equipment for the human mind to handle. Life is not perfect; but it is not all bad; wc still have a nation that can listen to "Mr. Five Hy Five" and not go entirely loony, or have wc? over-equippin- g, Messa9efrom Men Tn Thew T.nnal w TT (Continued from Page 2) Orlin G.
