Show THE MIJ1UKAY EAGLE Page 4 Murray, Utah, Thursday, August 1946 1, Entertain at r xensen and daughter, pL One Year One Year Whenever one is hard up for news he need not look any farther than Jack Hughes, Ron Watts and Arlen Parker. It so talented happens that these young men are always looking for excitement. Ron was behind the wheel, Jack was in the middle and Arlen on the ladies' side. When, much to their surprise, they turned over, with Jack immediately making a hole in the roof to broad jump 30 feet. Arlen followed close behind, but was unable to beat Jack's record jump. After some time had lapsed they all woke up, righted the car and made it home without mishap. Jack tells us that everything happens to everybody sooner, or later; if there is time enough. he had . well, The monkey . quite a scare, but with a little coaching they finally got him back in the car. Can we call it a car now? As of late I hear that Frank Hamblin is going to divide his heart. Into three divisions, I ihink he said. Something he learned 'in the Philippines, no doubt. The $G4 question this week seems to be. What happened to Slick Smith? Judging from his aDrscarance. it wasn't good. Seems that he went swimming one night and dived into the river with a depth of about a foot and a half. It seems that millions are siicnt for defense and trade, but not one cent for tribute. I ran into an interesting discussion the other day when Gne Bankhead gave me the philosophy of a dog's life. If you should lun into Gene, have him tell it $2.00 $2.50 The okl Murray State Hank building lias been leased to Delbeit Wolfley and Roy Dumas, who will open an office supply stoic. How in heck wc got the dope last week that it was to be a tailoring establishment mystery. Anyway, these two boys, Roy and Delbeit, are mighty well pleased with this spot, which is an ideal size for their purposes as well as being perfectly located. a Delbeit and Roy have tentatively agreed that The Murray ' t I'aijlc can use part of their window for display purposes and will also serve as our Sratc street office for the payment of subscriptions and the taking of printing orders. We hope this arrangement works out. 1). and R. hope to get going by the middle of this month. .i : . Jim Morris is aroused again. He wants to rent the front page of The agle to publish a manifesto of his opinions on many local subjects. At this moment wc haven't received any sort of manuscript from Jim ami we're afraid to print what he tells us on our own hook because of the libel laws. Jim, you know, is one of the most lovable characters in all of Murray and he has an opinion on most everything. His rallying cry is something like this: "If we arc going to have democracy in this country, let's write a constitution ami Hill of Rights." Jim thinks the old Constitution and Hill of Rights were sold to an old junk dealer in Washington, 1). C, about 15 ycras ago. I The only thing that makes Jim smile is when somebody insults him. If you compliment Jim he won't speak to you for three weeks. A nauseating shortage of wedding announcements lasting several months is now at an end and we have a source of supply that guarantees to fill all needs. HERE'S THE GIRL "they'll mos-like to protect from looly traps," write Undo Sam's enginem in Italy. Ilcr name is Yvonne do Carlo and lias rulrs in two raramount films, ''lirinj Oil the Girls." Technicolor musical, nnd "Practically Yours," the FrcJ ilacilurriiy-ClauilcttCulbcrt starring picture, a romantic comedy. t o Wc ran across an interesting sidelight about Murray last week that is, according to our informant, unique. The man wc talked to is an insurance representative and he said that his company has never known of a lapsed policy in the Murray area. In his territory there is an average of 30 lapses per week, none of which arc in Murray. He thinks this is little short of astounding and found it hard to explain. While dozens of families in the rest of the field had to default on their premiums because of the great smelter strike, all the Murray families thus employed paid their premiums far enough in advanccc to cover the strike 7 to you. Vcrv tired and forlorn, our hero decided to try a clever ruse. He lav on the ground by the side of the road, certain that the next car would stoy to see if the body lying there was alive or dead and when the driver was thus delayed our tlunuber would ask him for a ride to Murray. Sure enough, the next car stopped. The driver got out, came over and looked at the body. Ileforc our friend could ask for a ride the motorist got hold of his legs and pulled him off the road and out of harm's way, got back in his car and drove oil", leaving the forlorn lover alone to A Murray lovr, vaca-'.ione- i curse his fate. 1 Incidental gossip: Pete Brown.
