Track Classic mi am li Murray High School athletes placed in several events at the Hrigham Young University last Saturday and Lee Wofley, Murray javelin tosser, brought home a first place ribbon in the B division of the meet. Wolfley's mark topped the A division throw by over 10 feet even thourh the contest was held in the blowing wind and a downpour of rain. Mac Speedie, giant athlete of South High, beat Don Meisner of athMurray, for the lete honors. Meisner placed second in a strong field and trailed Speedie closely at the end of the chilling grind in which each man participated in nearly every one of the track and field events. Wahlin and Glavis of Murray placed third and fourth in the high hurdles and each of the boys ran a fine race. Larson of Murray placed third in e the and Wolfley placed another third in the shot-puLeany placed fourth for Murray in the discus throw. Granite, Jordan, and Davis all were entered in the A class division (made up according to the size of the school) and all throe placed in several events. Davis took first place in the mile and a first place in the 880 relay. Jordan tied for first place In the pole vault. Granite placed first in the broad jump, tied for first place in the pole vault and took a second in the high jump. Davis placed the most seconds and thirds. The Salt Lake City Schools took home the most places and the "Big Four," including Ogden, were the high standers in the A 120-yar- PtPl W WCi III! More than one of the B division marks bettered the A division marks and some of the outstanding athletes at the meet came from the B division. Coach Nielsen and the track team have done splendid work so far in every track meet and have represented Murray very well. They should all be complimented on their fine work. Competition Two more track meets are ahead of the "cinder men" of the state and if history doesn't repeat itself and give us more rain on Thursday and a week from Saturday in the University of Utah stadium, a few new marks may be established. Coach Neilson reports that with good weather a few more records may be broken in the track and field events at the U. of U. than were upset at the B. Y. U. last week in the storm that prevailed during the entire track meet. These two final meets will wind up the track season for another year and everyone is in hopes that Murray may be able to take a few first places and even set new records. Murray has some fine athletes this year and many of them will be back to carry the torch in 1939. Track fans give Davis a slight edge in this meet for top honors and Murray will have to break with the laurels. High prus. permitting, these games will probably be played as soon as the teams are ready. There is only a little time left for baseball and the games will wind up in the near future. Cyprus seems to have taken the lead again when Murray lost its game to the lucky Tooele crew and Murray needs remaining victories in games to nose out the leaders. One of Murray's final games will be with Cyprus and the Magna boys are certainly fine ball players. If Murray can repeat the win they made over Cyprus some time ago the top position should be theirs. Davis, who defeated Murray once, is still in the running and this team, may turn the tables by beating both Cyprus and Murray. The Murray outfit is waiting for the return encounter with Davis, however, and are steamed up for a win. Murray, then will have to do some tail playing to come up to the last rung of the ladder, and we are all waiting for the next ball game to see what is going to happen. Legion Post Elects Committee American Legion Post No. 60 of Murray met last Monday, at which time they appointed a nominating committee composed of Fred Lindbeck, Albert Comes and Ralph Penney. This committee will select names of officers for the coming year and will report back to the Post on May 6th. s, To Day of with $40,-00- MURRAY FOR RENT SOUTH STATE (One Door South of Iris Theatre) CALL AT 5547 So.
