This comander took the statement to include Jordan Post N. 35; Midvale, Cyprus Post No. 3:!; Magna and Bingham Post No. 30; and has written the District Com mander accepting the casual remark as a challenge, and on of his post has agreed to entertain the members of the new Murray Post if its membership exceeds that of his post by May 1st. Copies of his challenge have been mailed to the Commanders of the otlur two posts asking that they make the same offer, so the fight is on as far as the District Commander is concerned, however the question of the acceptance rests with the new Murray post and will be determined at a meeting of all World war veteran of Murray, Holladay, Mill Creek, Union, Taylorsville, Granger and vicinities at the Murray City Hail on January 10th, 1936 at 8 p. ni. Allan, the petition proposes that salaries of the firemen to average $1 per hour for the time the department is in service. "During the first half of 1935 the firemen averaged $1.08 per hour," Mr. Hausknecht, spokesman, told the commision. "But during the past six months we have not averaged more than 55 cents per hour. Under the present system, half of the total annual allocation to the department is made during the first six months and the remainder for the last half year, regardless of the number of fires responded to. The department was called to 35 fires, to put in a total of 559 hours dur ing the last six months. The first half year was lighter, as usual, because grass fires and additionfrom al hazards of the fall and late summer days are numerous." "The Murray Fire Department is a volunter organization," said Mayor G. R. Berger, "and its members act with the idea of patCITY CORPORATION riotism rather than for anticipated BUDGET 1936 compensation.
