II. Roth well, one of the leading physicians and surgeons of the state, has been appointed a member of the medical stuff of Salt ' Lake County. Dr. Rothwell is one of the best known citizens of Murray City and .. has a sltite wide reputation lu his profession. Murray City Is fortunate In having this recognition given a resident of this cily. The new county commissioners have made a number of appointments, but Dr. Rothwell is the only appointee having his residence in the city of Murray. GOOD SPORT.MANSIIIP By K. Allen Bateman , With the beginning of the league basketball schedule, Murray people interested In athletics are turning their attention to the success of the Murray High School team. One may hear comments on all sides among the alumni and "rooters" as to what the team will do or should do. We are all hopeful of placing In the state tournament and as the season progresses, will watch the progress of the boys wjth a great deal of interest. We want them to play the best they can and play to win. But they should win only aa a result of playing the game fairly and according to the rules. If athletics are not conducted on that basis they are harmful rather than beneficial to boys. A spirit of winning at any price or of using unfair methods of play may prove' successful iu winning games, at times, but it will develop wrong ideals of character in the lives of our young men and women. Athiet. h s l.s not worth while If it does not ntfike a Isiy a belter citizen because he has participated. Boys should feel that " the official ' Is there to call the game fairly and according to the rules and that if he makes a mistake It should Is overlooked. Officials are human and may make errors on either side. If the coach Is not careful he may object to decisions in such a way that the boys get an attitude of suspicion toward all officials. Such an attitude ruins their playing ability and makes them jsior examples for their student body.. A sane attitude of fairness iu the crowd can do much to IHp create right standard In the high school student body.
