Predicted That President Wilson and Vice-President Marshall Will be Nominated as Democratic Stand-ard-bearers at Saturday Session. Washington President Wilson has examined the draft of the Democratic national platform and given it has ap. proval. Practically all the planks the administration desires to be adopted have been completed. The platform feature will be peace plenty and preparedness. Prosperity under the Democratic ail. ministration will be attributed to parly policies and it will be denied that credit belongs to the war. President Wilson has approved the tentative selection of Senator Ollie James of Kentucky for permanent chairman of the Democratic convention conven-tion at St. Louis. This assures the election of the senator by the conven, tion. Senator Stone of Missouri has been tentatively decided upon as chairman of the platform committee. Preparedness and foreign polictei are to be the principal planks written into the Democratic platform when the Democratic national convention is held at St. Louis to nominate stand-ard-bearers for the coming presidential presiden-tial campaign. That President Wilson sketched these main planks of the party platform is the understanding ot members of the subcommittee of arrangements ar-rangements of the national committee. It was said that the president wrote the main planks of the platform and that they will be placed before the committee on resolutions by Senator Stone or some one who has the confidence confi-dence of President Wilson. The tariff tar-iff and monetary questions have been settled, according to the committee members, and they will be only lightly light-ly touched on in the platform. President Wilson and Vice-President Marshall are to be nominated as the Democratic party standard-bearers early Saturday morning, according to plans agreed upon by National Chairman Chair-man McCombs and the committee on arrangements. It is proposed to hold a long session, beginning Friday evening, even-ing, to name the party candidates and this session will last over into Saturday Satur-day morning. "We plan to reach the vote on President Pres-ident Wilson about 1 o'clock Saturday morning," said Chairman McCombs, in making public the convention plans, "and expect to proceed with the nomination nom-ination of vice-president thereafter." |
