PLEASAN- T- Under the accountability provisions in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, all schools are evaluated for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Schools and districts are required to meet AYP criteria on three indicators; participation in testing; language arts and mathematics Core CRTTest scores; and either graduation rate, for high schools and districts, or at- tendance rate, for elementary and middle schools. This current report of AYP is based on student scores and tests taken in the spring of 2004. In North Sanpete School District, the following schools made AYP as determined by student performance in all subgroups in the reported indicators. Wasatch Academy students spent time taking pride in their adopted city last week. Students swept, raked leaves and planted bulbs in the barrels along Main Street in Mt. Pleasant. Sandra Bigler , Mt. North Sanpete Middle School was deemed to not have made AYP according to NCLB only because the attendance rate for one subgroup was less than the 93 percent required. Attendance rate did exceed 92 percent and school attendance rate for all NCLB requires that Title One schools not making AYP offer additional options to parents and students. All Title One schools in North Sanpete School District made Adequate Yearly ' Progress. students was 95 percent. However, CRT test scores in math and language arts were above the required levels, The designation imposed upon North Sanpete Middle Free computers School is indicative of flaws con- tained in the No Child Left Behind" Act. Parents primarily control school attendance rates. This designation underscores the importance of parent and student responsibility that is ignored in NCLB. North Sanpete Middle School has increased student achievement in both language arts and math for all groups of students.
